That's all very valid and I agree with your points, but the fact remains that, on the face of it, this is such a ridiculous assumption/assertion that the OP could be trolling, just to see who'll bite.

But yeah, they're probably just a little blind to what's out there and somewhat blinkered. Musical tunnel vision, eh?

Oh, and the radio? Well again yeah, the mainstream radio but I always remember I got into artistes like Bob Seger, Supertramp, Chris de Burgh (when he wrote decent stuff) and Dan Fogelberg via the radio. FAB 208!!! We miss ya Luxembourg!

And everywhere has a classic rock station. I don't listen to it much now, but the radio turned me on to the Doors, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and Jethro Tull.
