"Controversial"

Ninetales 02-07-2015 03:58 PM

theyre the darlings of mb, no?

Goofle 02-07-2015 04:04 PM

There's no such thing as a "darling" on MB in fairness. But several of the regular members like them.

For the most part. I've seen quite a bit of shit thrown their way on here though, especially when The Money Store was taking off. I guess most people just talk about the bands that they like these days.

Ninetales 02-07-2015 04:11 PM

im glad I only listen to obscure shit so people cant tell me what I listen to is garbage

I had someone tell me once that anything not on the radio "wasn't on the radio for a reason", clearly implying anything not radio-friendly was garbage.

The problem with "radio-friendly garbage" is that a lot of it is really good.

you know who listens to radio music

that's right

sheeple

Frownland 02-07-2015 04:23 PM

Radio is just a mind control agent developed by the government in the 1920s to subliminally promote propaganda. Everyone knows that.

Unless you listen to the radio of course. They've programmed you into thinking this concept is crazy.

I would have to completely disagree on Antlers being close in style to any of these bands. As a solo act with just Peter it was mainly bedroom folk and then Hospice saw the beginning of a shift that was eventually realized over the course of the next few albums into dream pop territory. If anything The Antlers have been pretty unique. In The Attic of the Universe is such a good and original album.

Also This Will Destroy You and Sigur Ros are not alike at all IMO.

Idk I can definitely hear a Post-Rock influence on Hospice, especially on songs like Sylvia. It has a micro-crescendo aesthetic with lots of loud and quiet sounds. I admittedly don't listen to that album when I am looking for artistic innovation. I think that post-rock is kind of a lazy label for that album, though. I'd sooner call it dream pop / alternative folk.

Death Consciousness by Have a Nice Life is another amazing post rock influenced album. But Deathconsciousness is kind of in a realm of it's own and is way more post-punk / shoegaze / drone than anything else. Giles Corey doesn't have the post rock aesthetic even remotely but I think there is definitely an influence based on the way the songs are structured. Fun fact, the person behind Giles Corey is also the person behind Have a Nice Life.

Idk. People always reference Loveless by My Bloody Valentine as the quintessential shoegaze album but I've always thought Deathconsciousness blew it out of the water. Earthmover, the climax of the album, is easily one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard, easily one of the most heart wrenching things, heartbreaking in a way only the man behind Giles Corey is capable of.

Deathconsciousness? What? I never saw that as post-rock influenced, but I guess I haven't listened to that album in awhile either. You guys sure are throwing that term around a lot. Maybe the genre just shares characteristics found in a lot of other genres or music in general, I dunno.

I like 'em. Good music to listen to when I'm pissed or energetic. I don't listen to it much outside of that, though.

That's my morning alarm. I actually almost wish I was joking.

Smooth FM at work plays some good shit. The problem is they play the same good shit every god damn day. And the same bad shit.

You should invest in a Hamm radio. When those things get going it can get pretty intense.

I'll give them another chance then. And I'm not saying they are.

Seconding get a hamm, vastly entertaining.

The only decent station I get is a smooth jazz channel or two. The rock and metal programs are sometimes good in the midnight hours, but mainly just ****. I need Sirius.

Chula Vista 02-07-2015 06:52 PM

Who is that in the new avatar Carpe?

I have to second Ninetales' habit related to radio. I'd considered ordering a Buddha Machine for white noise, but why bother when there's a wonderfully dynamic static generator right in your car?
