I think this might be the most likely post in the thread so far, but I skipped a couple of pages, anyone shoot it down yet?
First song that comes to my mind that hasn't been posted yet is Hotel California.

Anyone mentioned "I did it my way" ? That must be popular because there are a zillion covers.Even Johnny Rotten liked it. Screen 13 posted a Walker Bros song, which reminded me of this one, which, at the time it came out had cross-generational appeal:- Never heard TH's Destination Unknown song before, but it's a good candidate; some irresistable (br)ass. In a similar vein, this is a very catchy, dancy song. I think everybody secretly loves it, right up until they can't endure it for another second and run screaming from the room:- More sedate, but for me this has a similar effect to the Macarena - starts off catchy, then drives you mad :-

As someone said, the thread is sort of becoming a "favourite songs" rather than the original intent. I think one of the criteria for a "song everybody likes" is that it has to be a song everybody knows, something that when it comes on the radio or TV or at a disco, party, whatever, everyone says "Yeah this is a great song." While some of the songs we've posted are ones we think are great, it has to be said that many of them would just be greeted with a shrug by a large percentage of the population, most of whom would not even know who the bands were.
So in that spirit, try these. While they may not all be particular favourites of mine, I think few could say they don't know and like them. With the possible exception of Fleetwood Mac, but since it was used in a presidential campaign it may be better known than it would otherwise have been.
