I don't know all that much of his material but I've loved his work on the likes of Rain Dogs and Mule Variations. I've only two of yours to go: Fire Orchestra and Devandra wotsit. Anything I've listened to but not posted I'm not changing. Do you want me to substitute one of them?

The Strokes - Is This It

1. Is This It

Really love this opening. The rhythm is super cool and the song
is flowing along. Just kind of inviting me in to the record.
It's funny how it's the opening and the song almost is asking
if something is over yet, something is starting. It's really
just enjoyable. I actually, would love this as an acoustic.
4.5 stars

2. The Modern Age

Fun. That's my first thought. Easy guitar, easy drums. Love it
when he really vocalizes. He has that perfect kind of rasp.
The chorus is pretty easy too just like the track. Then of
course since it's The Strokes there's a solo, and in comes the
vocals more amped up. I like them this way the best. And who
doesn't like a good wooo! My only gripe is I wish the last
chorus has more energy
4 stars

3. Soma

Like this one just the same but, it sounds a lot like Modern
Age in my opinion. Is is their debut right? I think that's
what I heard and I can kind of tell because, some things a
little more simple than the other CD I listened to. It's not
bad though.
4 stars

4. Barely Legal

The Strokes just have this way about them it's like a swagger.
The old school term not, the term that has been abused in this
current generation for people trying to hard. Oh, sorry just my
opinion. They're just cool. Love the chorus. I think I like
this one the best out of everything so far. He's rather uh,
obsessed with someone isn't he? It seems that way. Here comes
that awesome chorus again.
5 stars

5. Someday

Oh! I know this song I've heard it. I think it might be one of
the first songs I've heard by them. It's really good. I actually
really love this song. The lyrics are nice too. It's a solid
track what else can I say?
5 stars

6. Alone Together

Another good song but, it's still a lot like the others. I think
where The Strokes really shine is their choruses. They're always
different in some way or another. I still feel like this album
is right in their comfort zone though. Maybe I'm bias after
hearing later things that are obviously more advanced. Love this
part right here around, 2:00 and the ending band part is super
funky and awesome.
4 stars

7. Last Nite

OH OH OH I know this song I LOOOOOVVEEE this song. This has to
be one of their best songs in my own opinion. I might start
dancing. It's just so smooth, so suave, so cool. I'm just
enjoying this track cause, it's maybe one of my favorite songs.
In my top 100 for sure.
5 stars ALL THE STARS

8. Hard To Explain

I know this one too I think. Were these two songs that had music
videos? I don't remember. I do, however love the bass line. Yes
I know this song. This part around 1:40-ish. So awesome. Ugh,
what can I say about a song I like so much?
5 stars

9. When It Started

Funky start. I like it. What genre are they considered? Alt
Rock? Wait holy crap, did this album come out in 2001? I can't
believe it was that long ago. Good song, not one of the better
ones but, good.
4 stars

10. Trying Your Luck

Good, about on the same level as the last track and the others
that are similar to it. Not as interesting as the break out ones
but, I am enjoying it.
4 stars

11. Take It or Leave It

Another really great track OH YEAH. Love the take it or leave it
part. That's really awesome. I know my comments are getting
shorter and shorter but, really I'm kind of jamming out. I
can't help it, just have to. TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT! Ohhhh Takkkee
iiitttt! This is kind of perfect to close out the album. Leaves
you on a high note nice and motivated. Get the energy pumping.
5 stars.

Over all I freakin' loved this record. It's such a great listen
if you like rock music it's just good.

4.5 stars all together. It's not perfect there are some songs
that sound the same but, not so much that it's annoying and
off putting or anything. Thanks for the rec!

Glad you loved it. If you couldn't tell already (hint: check my avatar) Is This It is one of my favorite records of all time. Also check out the track New York City Cops, it was a track cut from the original release.

I had a lot of fun listening to it and yeah, I could see your avatar was the album cover though, I'm trying to figure of how that album cover connects to the record. Do you know what it means? I'll listen to that track at some point.

Here's my next suggestion. Bit more of a 70's oriented album, but their sense of melody is second to none.

Moon Safari - A Doorway To Summer (2005)
