TO answer this, I'll do that annoying thing I do. Go over what I think is highest quality (best), and what relates to me more (fave)

Best:
1. California Dreamin
2. That Thing You DO
3. Stairway to Heaven.

As far as favorites go:
1. Anything for Love
2. Pour Some Sugar on Me
3. When the Levee Breaks

I have but it's been quite a while, I'll give that record a spin.

This is hard. I really don't like ranking stuff. And my taste is far too diverse to be covered even by 300 songs. From what comes to mind right now:

I think it's a beautiful piece of music, but not quite on the same level that 18 Musicians is for me.

How did you come to think so highly of Fall of Saigon?

Everything about it is awesome, the trancy industrial drums, the drowning electronics, the strange harmonies, and especially the guitar solo at the end. Tbh though, Not Waving, Horizontal Hold, A New Kind of Water, and Triumph could take its place depending on the mood I'm in.

My favorite post-punk stuff came much later: Sonic Youth, Butthole Surfers, Big Black.

Do you feel like the best of that genre was already used up by that time?

I'm thinking you prefer Suicide, The Fall, and the No New York compilation. Am I right?

I like those groups that you've mentioned, but I think that This Heat, The Pop Group, PIL and The Fall are the best post punk artists I've heard. So I guess looking at the trend of what I listen to, I prefer the older stuff, although "used up" is not a way that I'd like to phrase it. One of my favourites is Old Time Relijun and they're 2000s, so there's that I guess, even if it calls back to the no wave scene.
