Because it is harder to find alternative music on radio and tv more than years ago. You could find everything on internet but you have to search it. Not easy for lazy people

It just is how it is. Teenagers are a very diverse group and hold different interests, personality, upbringing, environment, etc. It all has an impact on which music they choose.
