Can this expand to albums?

If so...

Nick Cave - Murder Ballads

An okay album, but average compared to many more of his albums.

There's no way it's worse than Nancy, Let Your Hair Down For Me or Nightingales.

What albums are they on? I only have Swoon, Steve McQueen, Jordan: The Comeback and Andromeda Heights.

They're both from From Langely Park To Memphis (which also has The King Of Rock & Roll). The other seven cuts on the album are fab.

Totally disagree. That's one of my favorite Nick Cave albums.

Lemonheads - Mrs Robinson

Their cover of Simon & Garfunkel's Mrs Robinson was their biggest hit and is the song which most people will remember them by. Quite frankly i think it is the worst thing they've ever put to tape. Even Evan Dando thinks its the worst thing they've ever recorded. Why remember them by this song rather than gems like It's A Shame About Ray, Confetti, My Drug Buddy, The Great Big No or Rudy With A Flashlight?

I kind of avoided that album.

Get it anyway. At times, I actually prefer it to Steve McQueen. The Venus Of The Soup Kitchen is one of the most moving songs I've heard (give it time to grow on you, though; I hated it the first two dozen times out). Plus, it has Cars & Girls, which is one of the best singles by anybody.

Yeah its good... But there are many more Cave albums which I prefer...
Your Funeral... My Trial
Tender Prey
Abattoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus
The Boatman's Call
From Her To Eternity
Let Love In

Are all better and there are a few others that are equal with MB, and Murder Ballads doesn't really justify its acclaim and popularity as a Cave album in comparison to these.

I guess we just have to agree to disagree. Like I said, it's one of my favorites of his, the only one I might rate higher is Let Love In. Though I admit I've never listened to Your Funeral... My Trial or From Her To Eternity.

Rat in a Cage by Smashing Pumpkins

And would I be correct in saying Kool Thing by Sonic Youth?

I agree that's an awful song with some of the worst lyrics in the history of rock music, but I don't think that's the Smashing Pumpkins' most well known song by any stretch.

My bad <.< It's the only Pumpkins song I had heard when I was a kid.

Incorrect. Not only is it not a bad song but it is certainly not their best known. No Sonic Youth songs would qualify for this thread in my view

I'd say it's up there with 1979 for popularity. Shame it isn't up there for quality though.

Hmmm. Maybe. But I'd say "Today" and "Disarm" were bigger songs.

It was on Guitar Hero though, its either going to be that or their cover of Superstar.

TheBig3 12-03-2008 12:22 PM

Something I want to point out thats only mildly related.

The first page has Jospahines (who?) signature as saying

"Urban for Euromod"

Remember when the Brits felt maligned? This place has gone to hell.

Urban Hat€monger ? 12-03-2008 12:53 PM

maligned?

Nahh we just wanted to be able to log on without having to wade through pages & pages of spam while all the American mods wern't here.

And it worked.

Yeah, and I had actually heard of it before Guitar Hero, so I thought it must be more well-known than the rest.

Fruitonica 12-05-2008 05:40 AM

It isn't their worst, but Killing in the Name deserves a mention for being so overrated. Often it is the only RATM song people know, which always irritates me.

Janszoon 12-05-2008 10:42 AM

How about "I Just Called To Say I Love You" by Stevie Wonder? For many years it was all I knew by him so, not surprisingly, for many years I thought he sucked.

Piss Me Off 12-05-2008 10:50 AM

Isn't She Lovely is pure cheese as well.

Yeah, that's pretty awful. Oh, and let's not forget about "Ebony and Ivory". So I guess I did know more than just "I Just Called To Say I Love You" when I was growing up, but everything I knew by him sucked.

I think Bulls On Parade is more overrated, but I see where you're coming from. I think "every song on Guitar Hero" would work.

I'll politely disagree on the grounds that Guitar Hero 3 and Guitar Hero 4 are not the only GH games ever made. GH1 and 2's setlists were almost completely devoid of tracks that belong in this thread.

I am quite the avid rhythm gamer, FYI.

Not one of their worst but certainly not their best.

Really? Where I'm from Killing in the Name would be vastly more well known amongst casual music listeners.
I had no idea they put Bulls on Parade onto guitar hero, but I think that it's one of their best songs so not really overrated.

Dexy's Midnight Runners...an absolutely ****TY song(Come On Eileen).

Same w:

Macarena-the two worthless jackasses who almost singlehandedly ruined "pop" music w/this ****fest, should be shot several times for unleashing this giant, steaming pile of elephant dung onto society.

Newsflash: it wasn't: cute/fun/exciting/awesome/cool to do the "macarena", you looked like an even BIGGER imbecile(if thats possible) doing the stupid dance, then the two dolt sammiches who released it on society.

Bobby McFarren-If i have to hear "Dont worry, be happy" one more ****ing time, I'll go on a 12 state killing spree.

Suzanne Vega-My Name Is Luca-Has to be one of THEE WORST piles of steaming dogdung I've ever heard, it makes absolutely NO sense. No, you dont "get it", you're simply saying that to try to justify: liking/listening to/buying it. Her career immediately(and thank the world for that) tanked after this ****fest was released on an unsuspecting(and stupid) record buying society.

So are you saying Los del Río have a bunch of lesser known songs that are way better "Macarena"?

No, I'm saying that this song, shouldn't have been as big as it was. The two imbeciles who did it, are GARBAGE!!!! I can't name another song they did, nor would I want to. Sorry, I didnt buy it, dont own it, and will not, ever ever ever.

Well this thread is "Band's Most Well Known Songs That Are Also Their Worst", that's why I ask. I'd think you'd need an intimate knowledge of Los del Río's full body of work to determine whether or not "Macarena" was their worst song. I don't think I've ever heard any of their other songs, but I'd be willing to bet there are atrocities far worse than "Macarena" in their catalog.

Edit: According to Wikipedia they actually did a Christmas version of "Macarena". I bet that's worse than the regular song.

Here it seems like everyone knows Bulls on Parade, and was Killing In The Name that was on guitar Hero.
Down Rodeo is pretty overrated as well.

I don't know "Bulls on Parade" by name, though I'm sure I'd probably recognize it if I heard it. "Killing In the Name", on the other hand, I definitely know.

Linkin Park - What I've done

Guitar Hero ruined music. And it's a ****ty game too. All you do is push some buttons and a swivel thing and people are like "WHOA MANG IM SO GEWD AT THE GIT", but if you gave them a guitar, they'd ask why there aren't any coloured buttons.

Deep Purple - Smoke On The Water i think
