There's probably good rock out there with lyrics about god and Christianity, but artists who call themselves Christian rock have that pseudo-jubilation sound that just makes me want to kill everybody.

Oh, I think there's plenty of good brass band music out there—New Orleans brass bands are pretty great, Balkan brass bands are pretty great, and even some marching band stuff can be good. It's just that national anthem sounding stuff that bores me to tears.

Exactly. It's not the lyrics that make me dislike them so much (though it doesn't help), it's how bland and awful the music is. I think the problem is that the laser focus on the message means that the music itself becomes secondary.

That's how I feel when I listen to second rate conscious rappers like Kendrick.

I read Jansz's comment differently and probably incorrectly. Not that the artist put the music on the backburner, but I as a listener end up taking too much interest in the lyrical content as opposed to just ignoring/overlooking it as I do with most other music.
