I'll go with indie folk. It never feels honest or engaging, like the artists are just having a go at folk so they can dress like settlers and play the banjo. Oh and whatever genre you'd call Yngwie Malmsteen and Steve Vai.

And of course indie folk/indie rock.

Agreed. Adult contemporary can be absolutely soul-crushingly dull.

Ah yes, Adult Contemporary. Or 'Adultery', if you will.

It's too ambiguous of a term for me tbh, I know what you're referring to though.

Just call it garbage.

I guess I should specify the indie pop folk and self-consciously uber retro groups. The more turn-of-the-20th-century hillbilly the outfit the worse.

Grunge.

Jangly indie fluff (with ukuleles and tambourines and clapping and mushmouth vocals) is equally bad I'd say. I always assume that that's what Zooey Deschanel's band must sound like even though I haven't heard it.

Indie is indeed boring assuming you're separating it from alternative in general. I'm not nearly enough of a bland, overly-sensitive twat for that ****.

...I thought they were one and the same?
