Only indie dweebs say that. We all know what indie sounds like.

I know what it sounds like, and modern alternative music sounds like it quite a bit.

But bringing a guitar to a party to play Wonderwall on repeat makes you cool though, right?

Yeah indie has unfortunately taken over a lot of alternative, but they're still not synonymous terms, clearly cause one has awesome **** and the other is indie.

Does that still apply when we only focus on modern alternative?

What is the modern-day equivalent of Wonderwall, I wonder? (I am trying to remember what all terrible renditions I heard at parties many moons ago, but I cannot. They all just sounded like goats)
I sure wish more people played Robbie Basho songs at parties. Can't have a party without Robbie Basho, as they say.

That's a good question. It might still be Wonderwall, but I think it's been replaced by general campfire singalong stupidity (seriously, just because it's an acoustic guitar it doesn't mean that you can only tepidly strum it). Also, I play like Robbie Basho's drunk nephew, but at a party I'd probably be inclined to play something a little punkier.

I don't listen to much modern alternative, but at least some of it doesn't sound like milquetoast bull****. Or at least not indie milk toast bull****.

Again see: REM
If you can honestly tell me that you don't like The Replacements' version of "Black Diamond" then you can go **** yourself.

Guys, I already gave the correct answer to this question. There's no need to debate about indie rock and whatnot.
