Don't know if Buckethead or that hyper-productive Mars Volta dude are on the Wiki list (probably not). They probably both made around 50 albums in 2017.

Album title: Vessel in Orbit Artist: Whit Dickey (Trio) Genre: Jazz Nationality: American Release date: March 24 Position in Discography: Tenth overall, first with trio Fear Factor: High Familiar with this artist? No Familiar with the genre or subgenre? No Average RYM Score: 3.36 It's an interesting thing, to hear violin being used in jazz (I assume – to my incredibly limited knowledge jazz seems to usually involve brass, drums, guitar, piano etc) but while I love violin, I prefer (of course) gentler, softer, more melodious harmonies from such an instrument, here it's quite harsh. Dickey's forte is the drums, so no surprise that they're front and centre, and one thing that really irks me about the minimal jazz I've heard has always been the drums. This, so far, has not done anything to change that opinion. Okay, got halfway through and this is doing nothing for me except hurting my ears. Jazz is clearly not for me, at least, not this type. Album title: Girl's Day Everday #5 Artist: Girl's Day Genre: K-pop Nationality: Korean Release date: March 27 Position in Discography: Seventh EP; ninth overall Fear Factor: Moderate Familiar with this artist? No Familiar with the genre or subgenre? Quite a bit, by now Average RYM Score: 3.18 I guess I've managed to avoid K-pop for a while now, but it's back, and again it's an EP. At least it's a girl group, which I find in general to be better than the boy ones, though the first two tracks meld together as generic pop/dance numbers. The third has some interesting sparse guitar work and a more restrained vibe – wouldn't call it necessarily a ballad, but it's not as bright, cheerful and brainless as the other two. Next one is a ballad, and it's pretty nice too. Lovely ripply piano, and the next one is also a ballad but more a power ballad. Good stuff, to be fair: one of the better girl K-pop albums I've heard, has a lot going for it. Check out more from this artist? Probably not Check out more from this genre or subgenre? I have no doubt I'll have to http://www.trollheart.com/speed8.jpg Expectation Index: 7 |

Album title: None of the Clocks Work Artist: Amir Obè Genre: Hip-hop Nationality: American Release date: March 30 Position in Discography: Fourth EP; sixth overall Fear Factor: High Familiar with this artist? No Familiar with the genre or subgenre? No Average RYM Score: 3.18 Makes a good impression when it kicks off with a sort of atmospheric song, pretty much sung and not rapped, and the second one is just as good, quite dark and morose in theme. Is this not more trap? I'm unclear on the distinction, though I read that trap has darker, slower elements than traditional hip-hop, and this certainly ticks both those boxes. Whatever it is, it's damn good. I mean, damn good. Last two tracks up the tempo a lot. Really enjoyed that. Check out more from this artist? Ah, yeah Check out more from this genre or subgenre?
