Your vote only counts if you say something about the album. It doesn't need to be a paragraph, just a couple sentences about the album.

Also, I'll ask mods to delete Votes this time. Just a couple of sentences, that's all.

****ing awesome. Dope as ****. 10/10

Machine 01-05-2018 03:13 PM

Arguably the best metal album ever made, it's impossible to listen to one song and not the rest.

Thelonious Monkey 01-05-2018 03:14 PM

One of the first thrash metal albums I listened to and still one of my favorites of all time. It's pretty much prefect. Every minute of it never disappoints. 10/10

i went with an 8 cause while i love the ****ing **** out of it, there are thrash albums i prefer and i wouldnt rank it as an all-time favourite.

I barely ever listen to thrash metal anymore, and when I do, I'd much rather listen to some old Megadeth. They're really the only of the big 4 that still comes through my stereo with any regularity. I still have my Metallica albums, but actually listening to any of them is barely an annual event.

I had a short fling with Slayer years ago, but never really cared much for them beyond that. At least I like them better than Anthrax - the ****tiest of the big 4 by several lightyears.

Kerry king's solos are annoyingly one dimensional and so is Araya's barking. It's really only the drumming I admire. I'm way more interested in Lombardo's various musical projects than I ever was in Slayer.

I probably wouldn't even think of this as the best slayer album, as the constant top speed tempos make it sort of repetitive, despite the ultra short album length.

Super important thrash album, no doubt about it, but doesn't hold a candle to Rust in Peace.

6/10.

Mustaine is crazy and sounds like a strangled kitten, but his band is still the best of the big 4 by a wide margin.

I don't care if they taze me. I'll still be right.

Mustaine can arrange a song, but he has never touched on the kind of hellish (or any other kind of) atmosphere that Slayer does. And Mustaine sounds like he's taking a ****. And they only have 4 albums worth listening to while 90% of Slayer's discog is excellent. And you suck.

I'm somehow fine with his weird vocals and I find Megadeth's music way more interesting than that of Slayer.

When it comes to atmosphere, death metal does what Slayer tries to do better, tbh

It's not even that they're weird vox, they're just forced as **** in a "hey look guys, this is heavy right?" kind of way. Musically, Megadeth is way too poppy and lifeless on everything after RIP, and everything before that lacks any kind of immediacy. Basically, Megadeth are the band geeks of thrash metal.

DM defo has atmosphere on a wider level than thrash, but it's rare that it beats Slayer's. Plus Slayer did it 10 years earlier.

Christ, they even have police for ****ing now? Jesus! What's happened to this world? You can do nothing now. :(

Look, even a know-nothing-about-real-metal wanker like me got blown away by this album first time, and I had feared (yeah) listening to it. Mind you, it wasn't until I went through Slayer's discog for one of the Metal Months that I realised how head and shoulders and everything else you can think of it stands above everything in Slayer's discography, to say nothing of most other metal albums.

Can I get an "ANGEL OF DEATH!!!!!!!!" ? :D

The perfect metal album? Hard question to answer, but the answer is **** YES!

10/10

Maajo 01-05-2018 04:42 PM

I actually am with Mic on preferring Rust In Peace, but they're not great for the same reasons. Reign In Blood is great because it's the quinessential thrash metal album that you'd show to someone if they asked you what the genre was all about. It's violent, it has a gory awesome album cover, it's short but crams a lot of music into that short amount of time, and it really never ceases to be aggressive. It's one of my favorite metal albums of all time, no doubt. 10/10.

I can agree Mustaine's vocal sound forced, but I'd say the same about Araya's and even Hetfield's. Hetfield actually kind of annoys me these days. Back when I was a teenager, I didn't think his vocals sounded forced, but now he reminds me of that dude from Godsmack.

I never listened to Megadeth because they're heavy. I like most of their albums, admittedly. Even Super Collider.

I'm not a big DM fan, but if I was looking for something heavy and "evil" feeling, I'd put on a Nile record over a Slayer record, every time.

Araya sounds really natural actually. His vocals have the air of genuine energy that fits the music perfectly.

Hetfield sucks, not sure why Mustaine tries to copy him so much.

I'm a big DM fan and honestly not even the biggest thrash fan. Slayer does the calamitous, pummeling assault best.

He's unassailable in that regard.

Frownland 01-05-2018 05:19 PM

I think for the first time he's right. Slayer gonna kick all y'all asses if you challenge them.

rubber soul 01-06-2018 03:39 AM

I didn't vote this time. Metal slash is something of an acquired taste for me and I have my own project going hot and heavy now. It wouldn't be fair to give them a four when it's really not my style to begin with.

But Slayer is certainly one of the premier bands in their genre so I'm not surprised they're getting all the love they're getting.

OccultHawk 01-06-2018 03:42 AM

WTF have you been doing in life?

rubber soul 01-06-2018 03:48 AM

Listening to good music :D

Epic thrash classic and one of my favourites of the genre. Definitely deserves MB classic status. 10 from me even for the first 30 seconds of the album alone.

I really dislike this album. I didn't care for the lyrics. I didn't care for the guitar playing. It was meaningless guitar wankery. The drumming was just a rip off of Hardcore drumming.
After going through the album I am reminded what Aristotle once said:
“If one listens to the wrong kind of music, he will become the wrong kind of person.”
