lol on the anal suicide suggestion but I think you might be hearing something more than what’s really there
It's funny, I remember it being so much more up front and prominent in the song. But when I went to listen and make sure I had the right song in mind it sounded buried. Maybe in the original master it's more prominent. The song does seem more compressed than I remember. Not as epic as I remember.

Edit: Yeah, it's the remaster. You can hear the shred much more in the original.

The original is so much better.

Always with this remastering ****. In general, with the original, the band was there, and that’s how the wanted it to sound.

If I have a choice I always go with the original. It’s gotta be the right call 99% of the time.

I'd agree with that. With the exception of much older albums, which couldn't at the time benefit from the technology we have now, this always seems a little superfluous. What? Was the original not good enough? You need to remaster it?
And yeah: nine out of ten times they lose something important in the mastering; almost like the life is clinically or surgically bled out of the music.

Depends on the genre.
The new King Crimson remasters rule.

I usually don't notice a difference with remasters. This is the first time. Original is way better. The issue I have with that remaster is the same issue I have with a lot of modern production, it's too compressed. Give the instruments some space, let them breathe.

I generally prefer the original masters when I can get them, but there have been cases where a remaster brought something neat to the table, like much more audible bass lines, for example.

Your old Skip James crackles are safe around me, don't worry. The pops, well now, I don't know about that...
