Default Preserving Voices

Being a vinyl music collector, i've learned that the most important thing about record collecting is ensuring that music generations of people understand the voices of the past, so they will remember...when we forget, we don't realize that looking outside of the box requires understanding that what we perceive the truth may be the truth that we believe today. By keeping voices alive through record collecting, we have a way to explore the past and understand how we got to where we are today, and why its ok to appreciate the positivism and understanding of the voices of the past.

What sparked your interest in vinyl, as opposed to lossless digital?

I'm not sure you can say collecting vinyl does this. After all, to hear "the voices of the past" as you put it these days, all you have to do is check out YouTube and Wikipedia. Not to mention that nearly everything, even the very very old recordings, are all digitised by now. I don't think playing vinyl records for some kid is going to necessarily convince him or her of the worth of that artist. There are plenty of ways to keep the past alive - or ignore it.

Some artists have done a good job reminding the present of the past, by sampling or covering or even duetting with older artists. That way, you're already in the kids' heads and in their preferred space, and you get to push into that a little and say, hey look! This guy/girl is/was cool too. Your favourite artist thinks so.

I think as long as today's artists pay their dues to the ones who blazed the trail for them, those artists will never be forgotten.

I think the guy is just posting meaningless drivel. Look up his other two threads. Impact of banhammer imminent.

Most likely the lack of compression.

If the goal is preservation, then future archaeologists will probably have an easier time figuring out how to play vinyl than a digital file.

I'm on it. This one was semi coherent. He's got one warning.
