Alright if you think so. I think their music has allot of substance and quality. That's just what my ears are picking up. Some people label hard rock and heavy metal untalented crap and just noise and consider crappy indie bands like Death Cab for Cutie and the Plain White T's music for intellectuals but I certainly don't. A band like Megadeth are more than just about riffs they also tackle allot of social issues and world problems like the song Countdown to Extinction which is about animals that are going extinct because of hunters and poachers. I think there are allot of smart Hard Rock and Heavy Metal bands like Megadeth and the other ones I listed as my favorites.

And Megadeth make boring, overrated music, regardless of their hackneyed lyrical content.

I don't find them boring even albums like Youthanasia and Cryptic Writings are like candy for my ears. I could listen to that anytime without hesitation.

Yeah but you also like Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, The Smashing Pumpkins, The Vines, Pantera, and The Doors so you obviously have a thing for bad, overrated rock bands.

If anything Alice in Chains are underrated, Soundgarden are not a hugely popular band like Nirvana at all so I think they are underrated too, The Smashing Pumpkins were maybe overrated in the mid 90's when they were in fashion but now are rightly considered a great band, the Vines certainly aren't overrated just check how many listeners they have on spotify, Pantera are a pretty damn heavy metal band that actually got to number 1 in the 90's so I think they deserve any praise they get and The Doors I think are no way near as celebrated as bands like The Beatles or The Rolling Stones so I think they are underrated because they made allot of great music.

To summarize:

If you're an incredibly popular band, but there's an even more popular band out there, that makes you unpopular and underrated.
If you're "damn heavy" and got to number one in the 90s, you can't be bad or overrated.
If you're considered a great band by some people, you can't be overrated.
