Which Influential Band Inspired The Worst Crap?

I'd say Iron Maiden. I can't imagine how much cheesy, high concept, middle-of-the-road metal they spawned

TechnicLePanther 06-22-2018 06:31 AM

Weezer

Frownland 06-22-2018 06:32 AM

Sublime

OccultHawk 06-22-2018 06:33 AM

Great question

I disagree with your answer though. Imo Maiden pushed metal very much in the right direction.

I’m gonna say Zep quick answer. But I could be influenced to change my answer. LZ is one of my favorite bands but the bands they influenced (with a few examples) really suck.

rubber soul 06-22-2018 06:34 AM

Journey

MicShazam 06-22-2018 07:38 AM

I'm pretty sure Nightwish takes the cake.

Trollheart 06-22-2018 08:39 AM

Nick would tell you Nirvana. :D

Psy-Fi 06-22-2018 08:50 AM

I imagine that any influential band will inspire more ****ty bands than good ones.

There are just far more ****ty bands than good ones in general.

Who's responsible for all of the terrible old man blues rock bands? SRV was a touchstone but can we blame Hendrix?

Oriphiel 06-22-2018 09:50 AM

Hey Frownland, who is your main influence?

When I was a kid, I stuck my head out of a moving train right as the horn went off and it was one of the loudest and most intense things that I ever experienced.

Good point

It also matters at what point in the life of the genre the artist arises

Oriphiel 06-22-2018 10:03 AM

The twist is that Frownland was the train.

“Responsible” and “blame” aren’t the words I’d use.

But, yeah, actually

Hendrix is still Freak Fighter Top Forty Number 4 though

The Batlord 06-22-2018 11:08 AM

Pearl Jam. Mainstream rock has been garbage ever since.

YorkeDaddy 06-22-2018 11:36 AM

I think The Strokes are an interesting case

The amount of awful Strokes-lite that was made in the mid-2000s is truly astounding

rubber soul 06-22-2018 11:36 AM

The Strokes themselves are music to barf to, imo.

I don’t necessarily agree at least when it comes to their earlier work but regardless there are other examples in this thread of that

Like imo Nightwish and Pearl Jam are pretty awful, but they’ve certainly influenced a lot of bands

The Batlord 06-22-2018 11:45 AM

I think we can all agree that the band who birthed Creed and Staind wins this thread.

MicShazam 06-22-2018 11:47 AM

Metallica, since there's a near infinite amount of thrash metal bands, but barely enough memorable ones to fill a small bucket.

grindy 06-22-2018 11:47 AM

Sex Pistols

Frownland 06-22-2018 11:50 AM

Which millennial whooped first?

rubber soul 06-22-2018 12:03 PM

Really, any great band has likely spawned a lot of imitator crap. How many bands try to sound like the Rolling Stones or Velvet Underground? How many are actually good? The Beatles pretty much spawned the Power Pop movement and there are some godawful bands in that genre.

Alternately? I can't think of any groups that do that.

Janszoon 06-22-2018 12:32 PM

Mr. Bungle. Love them, but I think a lot of untalented people took ideas from their self-titled album and formed them into horrible things like nu metal and Psychopathic Records.

Hey hey h-... oh yeah you're right.

MicShazam 06-22-2018 12:55 PM

Madonna, I guess. Most pop divas of that variety (mostly image - little musical talent) are trash.

Dewey Oxburger 06-24-2018 09:20 PM

The Jackson 5. Inspired all those awful boy bands

I guess different strokes for different folks, cause I love The Strokes. Their first two albums are great. And they inspired bands like the Arctic Monkeys and probably a few others like Balkans, Elefant, The Plasticines et al. (I said 'probably' cause I have no proof, other than sounding similar to them.) The Strokes themselves were inspired by The Mooney Suzuki. The Mooney Suzuki took their names from Suzuki and Mooney, two members in Can. If you hate and are disgusted by The Strokes than take all your rage out against Can. It's all their fault.

rubber soul 06-25-2018 05:31 AM

Actually, I really like Future Days though the rest of Can I can do without. I like the Mooney Suzuki too (the lead singer reminds me of Eric Burdon for some reason). To me, the Strokes kind of sound monotonous, especially after their first album. But you're right, different strokes and all that.

Guitar players? You suck.

Maybe he's testing us? Idk, I assume he would know better at least, but tbh I've been her for nearly 5 years and I still don't fully understand Nea.

You don't "test" a forum's Can knowledge when a grindy's around.
But yeah, he's mysterious that way.
