i guess what sucks most is the weird distinction ppl make between real/fake emo

fans of screamo think that midwestern emo and what came after is “fake emo” while a lot of fans of the later emo scene are totally unaware of the genres roots

so basically what sucks about it is that ppl would rather bicker about what real emo is rather than accepting there’s a ton of cool ass music under this rather vague umbrella of a genre.

I'm looking forward to the Hip-Hop edition.

Best quick description i can come up with is “punk music about being sad”. Doesnt describe the entire genre of course but its a start

There’s a lot of commercial crap that calls itself emo but there’s also plenty of good ****.

One of my favorite songs from the genre and just a flatout kickass song period:

grime thread will probably only be us and maybe frown or goof

also yea mcr is kinda emo but theyre more like pop punk than anything else tbh

"Emotional hardcore," MCR and the like are on the poppier side of the pop punk spectrum imo, when I think emo I think more along the lines of jawbreaker, sunny day real estate, alkaline trio, etc. but I've never been good with identifying genres.
