Default What Sucks About This Genre: Black Metal Edition

Okay, let's go. Personally I find I'm getting a little more into Black Metal now than I used to, but things that still suck about it for me are a) vocals that I often can't make out at all b) some bands in the genre just plain suck donkey balls c) Mayhem and their ilk d) the way some of them take it so seriously when really it's just quite hilarious.

Okay, your turn.

Are you now picking on the devil's music?

Seriously, though, I don't really know enough about it to give a rating. I suspect I would respect the genre though. It seems to me like it's a heavier version of thrash and I'd probably give thrash a three (remember, I'm not a metal head ).

And please pick a good band to represent BM.

Not that crappy symphonic crap band in the pic you posted.

1. When artists choose the cliched lofi aesthetic when it doesn't fit their sound (it works for a lot of BM though don't get me wrong).
2. Dumb makeup
3. Lotta redundancy. I like Darkthrone too guys.

I don't like how Mayhem's antics are so closely tied to the perception of the genre but I can deal with that.

3 suck.

I voted 2. Meant to vote 4, but I had the wrong idea about how the ratings worked. Very ****ty genre. First day with BM is like "oooh, I like those icy atmospheres!". Day two is like "ok... that's all you got?"

And the panda makeup and dumbass attitudes of BM artists make me lol

The high cheese factor is what sucks about black metal.

Traditional black metal riffing is like the power metal riffing of extreme metal. It's largely indistinct, boring, interchangeable, and leaves little impression beyond a cheesy atmosphere.

It’s something I enjoy like a few times a year, but I could never listen to it on a regular basis

I like ICS Vortex's brief vocal part in this piece of cheese more than I like the whole rest of the genre.
