I have CDs and vinyl. I purge only when I've moved. There's just way way too much. Vinyl especially takes up more space. I don't have a super large CD cabinet, like a friend has and I really should get same, but have 2 smaller ones. So, I'm usually in a state of rearranging cabinets, depending on who I'm currently listening to and the others get relegated to bookshelves or deep drawers, where I can stand them up so they're not lying flat.

I have given away CDs that I did wonder why I ever got them in the first place (that happens more than it should!) only to end up liking them later on and repurchasing! That's only happened a few times, though. I've been more careful about that and "retire" 'em instead. I do revisit bands who've been "retired" to the drawers who earn a spot in one of the cabinets, until next cull, so this works out well for me.

I own only 52 vinyl LPs and 111 CDs. The rest (1157 albums) are all digital, most FLACs. If I have a physical copy of it, it means the album has stood the test for me and is part of my permanent collection (this is true more for the vinyl, since my kids have some CDs in my rack that I wouldn't keep). Purging refers only to digital copies.

This whole time I was assuming that you were unloading vinyl.

I often buy CDs without knowing for sure if they're all that good, so my collection does need a bit of spring cleaning now and then. But I've sold remarkably few CDs over the last full year, so I'm getting better at hitting the bulls eye.

Goodbye Talking Heads. Man, I tried and tried to like these guys. A few songs are great, but overall the genre leaves me cold. Gotta cut them.
