Ehh all three of them are eclectic, post-punk-tinged post hardcore bands who appeared around the same time and often toured in the same circuits. That's why I find them comparable. Still not saying Minutemen are bad I just find ST and NMN's style to gel with me more.

On a different note, one of my favorite live videos is one that features ST, Minutemen, Husker Du and Meat Puppets all playing at the same gig.

Not really a fan of new wave either for that very reason. And yeah I do find hardcore punk to be one of the worst branches of the genre, generally speaking. I enjoy some of the more krautrocky post-punk that's out there like Chrisma but even then there's not a lot of winners.

Yeah, I didn't know what you'd think of that particular song. I think you would like Out for Blood better, but all the videos of the individual songs had awful sound quality. It has a better and more punchy production.

I'd consider "first wave punk" to be those that arrived around '77, i.e. Sex Pistols, the Ramones, The Clash, etc., none of which I like. Especially not the Sex Pistols. They can eat a dick. But I'm still very open to your suggestion and the likelihood of me finding punk bands to enjoy isn't impossible.

****ing hardcore punk though man. I don't think I can name a single just-HC punk band that I legit enjoy. I will put out there that I enjoy the more experimental post-hardcore bands like Fugazi and Big Black (who have a lot in common with noise rock which I also generally like), but never bands like Minor Threat.

The krautrocky new wave/punk groups I've found appealing mainly cause I like 60's/early-70's krautrock. Maybe it's just a familiarity thing.

Definitely DNOTD is way more post-punk, but I've always thought of What Causes a Man to Start Fires? and Surviving You Always as having a lot in common sound-wise. Minutemen's early stuff is generally harder than their later even with their more airy guitar tones.
