^ You're welcome, DMBFFF. Congrats on your 100 posts and thanks for the callout to Hugh Masekela, who surely deserves more attention on MB. To that end, here's a thread I opened about him a while back:- https://www.musicbanter.com/jazz-blu...-masekela.html

And on the topic of refs in songs, there really are so many! Here are a few more I thought of, all stemming from the US folk revival of the '60s/'70s:-

Bob Dylan: Song For Woody
Crosby Stills and Nash: Suite Judy Blue Eyes
Mamas And Papas: Creeque Alley
Joan Baez: Diamonds And Rust

maria and OH that was a loooong post in page 2.
i cant match it but heres one fairly big as well:

sometimes i like to do thematic (mix)tapes and so usually i have concepts in mind for future use.
one of those was very similar to maria's subject here. "songs that have an artist/bands name on the title"
soooooo i have a folder full with mp3s with that concept in mind
heres some of 'em (taking under consideration mainly how much i like the track but also how much i think it fits to the concept)

Jesus and mary chain - moe tucker
Jonathan richman - velvet underground
television personalities i know where Syd Barrett lies
syd barrett - bob dylan blues
the earthbound - jeffrey lee pierce
nick cave - blind lemon jefferson
LCD soundsystem - Daft punk is playing in my house
cake - frank sinatra
belle and sebastian - the boy with the arab strap
devendra banhart - beatles
dandy warhols - cool as kim deal
10000 russos - Karl Burns
Stereolab - John Cage bubblegum
Alabama 3 - I Blame Kurt Cobain
Invisible Surfers - Akis Panou
idles - Danny Nedelko
Mogwai-Waltz For Aidan
dj Mayonaise - DJ Signify Can't Do This

Don't know if it really counts but White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane was inspired by Alice In Wonderland:

One pill makes you larger
And one pill makes you small
And the ones that mother gives you
Don't do anything at all
Go ask Alice
When she's ten feet tall

And if you go chasing rabbits
And you know you're going to fall
Tell 'em a hookah-smoking caterpillar
Has given you the call
Call Alice
When she was just small

When the men on the chessboard
Get up and tell you where to go
And you've just had some kind of mushroom
And your mind is moving low
Go ask Alice
I think she'll know

When logic and proportion
Have fallen sloppy dead
And the White Knight is talking backwards
And the Red Queen's off with her head
Remember what the dormouse said
Feed your head
Feed your head

Also the whole Animals album by Pink Floyd was inspired by Animal Farm (George Orwell)
