That's fair. It does add to the aesthetic in a different way from most vocal styles in that it's not the focus of the music but a component of it. It takes some getting used to but you might speed up that process if you view the vocals similarly to an unremarkable bassist or what-have-you. Unless they're exceptionally interesting or well done, I tend to kinda tune them out anyways to focus on the guitars and drumming. That said, I've become so accustomed to it that melodic singing in metal comes off as kinda corny to me now.

Dharma & Greg - The singing here is more to my taste. As with most of these death metal songs I like the galloping percussion and violence but I can't seem to really connect to it. I can imagine that if you do it gives quite a rush
Anteater - The melody doesn't really move me but I like the flute and overall sound. The way it suddenly bursts into full shoegaze mode is great

The singer in the first two videos is Shutoku Mukai. He was in Number Girl, Zazen Boys, Kimonos, and a few others. He is listed as the guitar player in the Kimonos, and I'm only guessing he is providing backing vocals. Number Girl was the first band I got into, and whatever other band he's in I find myself liking them.

Zazen Boys - Honnoji

KIMONOS: Sports Men
