Default Famous Musicians Who Don't Use Drugs

I did a research about what bands (or certain band members), that i enjoy, are drug free. Here are the results:

Tom Morello (RATM/Audioslave):

- "He’s a big fan of whiskey, but otherwise is chemical-free – he says he’s never even smoked a cigarette"

Hayley Williams (Paramore):

- "My thing is i just don't drink, i don't smoke, i don't need to do drugs, i don't need to party, because it's never really tempted me"

Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden):

- "Iron Maiden lead singer Bruce Dickinson describes his band as “very boring” admitting that the only drugs you will find backstage at an Iron Maiden gig are ‘Ibuprofen and Aspirin'."

Mike Shinoda (Linkin Park):

- "'I wasn’t a teenage drug addict,' said Shinoda, who grew up in Agoura Hills and studied illustration at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. 'I wasn’t running around in the streets trying to scrape together money to buy whatever the hell Chester was buying at the time.'"

Andre 3000 (Outkast):

- "I rarely drink, I don't smoke, so my vice is probably creating. I'm addicted to creating."

Tim Mcilrath (Rise Against):

- "McIlrath, along with most of the rest of Rise Against, follows the subculture ideology of 'straight edge', a belief that promotes refrain from using alcohol, tobacco and other recreational drugs, in a reaction to the excesses of punk subculture."

Bruce Springsteen:

- "He's in good shape by not doing drugs." Springsteen has never done drugs, Van Zandt claims. "Don't drink, eat right, go to the gym and you can rock'n'roll at 62, too."

Mark Tremonti (Creed/Alter Bridge):

- "I haven't even smoked since i was 24 years old"

Oscar Dronjak (Hammerfal):

- “I’ve never done drugs in my entire life, I’ve never even smoked a cigarette. I don’t believe in it at all; my stance has always been that if your life is so bad that you have to do drugs, there’s something else that needs to change. I don’t need artificial drugs, life is a drug enough for me!”

Avril Lavigne:

- "The singer has a strong dislike for illegal substances of all kinds, and remains adamant she never used them herself: 'I'm proud to say that I do not do drugs. I'm against them 100 per cent - and I don't hang out with people who do drugs.'"

Bryan Adams:

- "I was never really interested in drugs or alcohol at all."

Cristina Scabbia (Lacuna Coil):

- "I mean, I don't do drugs, just because I'm not interested. I don't drink a lot, just because I am fine drinking a beer every once in a while. But it's not because of self-control or because I'm straight edge or anything like that. It's just who I am, without any stress."

Matthew Bellamy (Muse):

- "In an interview with Q, the rocker claimed taking hallucinogens every 12 months 'opened new doorways' for him. He said: 'I'm not really in favour of drugs. Setting aside one day a year for hallucinogenics definitely opens up new doorways.'"

Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam):

- "Eddie Vedder, unlike most of his peers, never fit into drug scene, as pointed out by the Washington Post. That certainly doesn't mean that he had an easier time than others, as seen in an Alternative Nation article where he describes his past struggles with depression, but hard drugs simply haven't been something he ever really turned to. Though heroin use was rampant among the music community at the time, as Stone Gossard told the Sydney Morning Herald, Pearl Jam stopped doing drugs pretty early on. As for Vedder, specifically, he swore off these substances as a teenager, according to the Los Angeles Times, and while he certainly isn't straight edge — in a 1994 interview, he said he drank about as much as the average person does — he has never seemed to have any problems with addiction or substance abuse."

Will.i.am (The Black Eyed Peas)

- "While their friends were getting high, Will and his best friend Redfoo had the last laugh. The Black Eyed Peas founder explains that their avoidance of the drug scene helped them focus on what they do best – music"

Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin):

- "In an interview with Howard Stern, Plant said. 'Drugs, I have no interest in'. Stern asked if Plant never had any interest in drugs. 'I did a little bit, yeah. But it got in the way of joy.'"

I just read about them and they should definitely be on this list.

Like i said, i only researched bands on my playlist, so there are definitely more drug free musicians beside those listed

Good call on Minor Threat, OH. This song sums up this thread nicely.

I'll check that dictionary, but in the meantime I'm impressed - as is everyone else in the world - by your eloquence, obvious accomplishments and success, and the evidence of your blazingly high intelligence.

Ian MacKaye was the first I knew that didn't take drugs and was open about it. I can say he was influential to me in that respect. A lot of other people I didn't have a clue who were or were not on drugs. Exceptions for those who were open about taking illegal drugs. Frank Zappa surprised me when I found out he didn't, but it made sense. I guess his attitude toward that kind of lifestyle shows up the way he lamb blasted the 70s/Disco club culture.

Dick Dale
Jeff Beck
John Fogerty
Poly Sterene
Henry Collins
Morrissey
J Mascis

As a lifelong fan of Hammerfall I can totally believe that such a ****ing nerd would never do drugs and be very smug about it.

Kurt Cobain hasn't done drugs in almost 30 years.

Lucem, you're right, it's silly to talk about what I would or wouldn't do IRL. Glad you brought it up. Maybe you should write an instrumental about it. I recommend a piano paired with a clarinet. With ambient sounds of you hanging from your shower curtain you ****ing failure.

Art Is Dead. Buy My ****.
