If you have something that you have grown up with it's good for a start.

Mary Black reminds me of Capercaillie singer (her solo albums are not so great), I am not really fond of Capercaillie they are an ok band.

Christy not for me I guess, I did tried.

rebel songs not my thing this is too much jolly.

Fire, do you know much about Ethiopian music, and Ethiopian jazz in particular? I know some music be Getatchew Mekurya (I can't do the accents) which I love so I'd like to learn more. I'm interested in any part of Ethiopian culture really, it seems like a fascinating country

Tlahoun Gèssèssè (Ethiopiques 17)
Mulatu Astatke (Ethiopiques 4, Mulatu Of Ethiopia)
Mohammed "Jimmy" Mohammed (Hulgizey, Takkabel)
Akalé Wubé (actually from France and kinda lightweight but still nice Ethiopia-inspired grooves) (S/T, Sost)

Generally the whole Ethiopiques series is a good introduction to a lot of classic stuff so just browse those a bit if you're looking for more.

Good that you have interests in the music.
I also recommend her on her pitchfork thread.

Hey grindy! Good to see you around. Heard you had come to your senses and kicked this place to the kerb; glad to see there's still a little bit of insanity still in there... ;)
