You guess? That's not saying much. Aren't you the one who thinks China is Communist?

Edit: I guess I should also mention that, while I don't go back and listen to Is this it because I don't think it's the Strokes best album, at the time it was released, the rock world was awash in some objectively bad music, and Is this it sounded like to a lot of us like a breath of fresh air.

nah Is This It is pretty great. It's derivative and sleek and doesn't meet your edginess quotum, but it's so catchy and it all just fits together so well, it has a kind of well executed simplicity that just works.

Yep these albums can be really fun. The Supergrass and Oasis debuts are in exactly the same category, except being derivatives of UK rather than US models.

it's not even that it's derrivitive...it's just not that exciting instrumentally

wallpaper music

there are a few post-00s post-punk acts that manage to be exciting without necessarily doing anything new

Huh, I like the Strokes much better than Supergrass or Oasis. I'm not sure if they actually do have more to offer or if its just bias

I'll take a guess and say it's because you're a Beatles/Kinks person.

I love Bowie too much to be able to stand the idea of Suede (even though their debut is perfectly good guitar pop), and my ex who was really knowledgeable about US rock from the 60s and 70s couldn't bear hearing the Strokes. Many such cases!

Maybe. My love for the Kinks is a big part of why I don't like the Jam so there's that. Suede is ok to me, much nicer than Oasis or Supergrass. I'm an ardent Bowie fan based on a few albums that mean the world to me but I never got really into the rest of his discography.

Today I mostly return to the Berlin trilogy + Scary Monsters but I used to listen to everything beginning with Space Oddity and up to Let's Dance a lot. I think he has one hidden masterpiece, his last album with Eno from 1995, Outside.

What's wrong with a bunch of hairy, loud British oafs? Some of the best people.
