"SAIL. BOATS. SAILBOATS... is one of the illest bands... in the illest... post-hardcore... post-punk... whatever you wanna call it... bands that I've ever heard, ever. Illest. And I mean illest like they got some style, the got some flair, and you ain't gonna be able to match it. You think you hot, but you not. You know what I'm saying? Your ****'s no good here, cuz Sailboats said so." one of the most hilarious combination of stereotypes rolled into one person: house ******/skramz noob |

He's wearing a horse the band shirt and has mutton chops. Did he say he was a musician too?
This guy is the perfect embodiment of the scene. |
Plus he's praising an overhyped band that only recorded 2 ****ing (mediocre) songs, and is only well known for making a ****ing decent 45 second intro.
I mean, seriously... (all the anger is from the confusion of why people like them so much...) |

Rites of Spring- Drink Deep
Hoover- Cuts Like Drugs Maximilian Colby- Balance Angel Hair- You were ugly but you got cute again Sleepytime Trio- 30 Equals Roadside Monument- Sunken Anchor Native Nod- Bread Current- Bastille Four Fundred Years- Suture Shotmaker- About half of Mouse Ear (forget me not); too good for just one I'm bad at favorites, but I like this list. I'm not a big FHY fan generally, and I only recently tracked down more Current stuff, so my top bands list might be different. Also, I didn't even get into the indie-emo side, that would make it too hard (unless Roadside Monument counts). |

think my top ten are by these bands:
Built to Spill Piebald Hot Water Music Small Brown Bike ah hell i'll go ahead and throw Seldom in there too |
Cap'n Jazz - "Oh Messy Life"
Lion Of The North - "Ghost Stories" Indian Summer - "I Think Your Train Is Leaving" Don Martin Three - "End Of This Tunnel" (Fire As A Metaphor 3) Indian Summer - "Touch The Wings Of An Angel...Doesn't Mean You Can Fly" Angel Hair - "Lazy Eye" Angernon Cadwallader - "Casual Discussion In A Dome Between Two Temples" Rites Of Spring - "For Want Of" Saetia - "Venus And Bacchus" Funeral Diner - "Direct Hit" |
I actually haven't owned End on End for a couple years, as it was in my Alpine when it got jacked back in the 10th grade. I just bothered to download it recently for whatever reason.
"For Want Of" is very good, but I was always way into the chord progression and background vocals in "Drink Deep." That finale's intense too; I was bumping it in my dorm room and I got even a little bit more embarassed than I usually am about emo/hardcore in college. If I did an indie-emo list it would probably just consist of Braid and Cap'n Jazz- I guess maybe an Anniversary song too, but I'm never too sure about the Anniversary. Oh, and I like the Angel Hair inclusion. |
Cap'n Jazz - Rocky Rococo
Mineral - If I Could Off Minor - Practice Absence Drive Like Jehu - Sinews Bear vs. Shark - Song About Old Roller Coasters Braid - Killing A Camera Sunny Day Real Estate - Grendel Texas Is The Reason - Johnny On The Spot American Football - But The Regrets Are Killing Me |
This thread needs more Cap'n Jazz
|
No order.
Ampere - The Old World is Behind Us Circle Takes the Square - Non Objective Portrait Of Karma I Hate Myself - Not Waving but Drowning Cap'n Jazz - Oh, Messy Life Christie Front Drive - Away Sunny Day Real Estate - In Circles Hot Cross - Fortune Teller Hot Cross - Finger Redux Owls - Everyone Is My Friend (tough to decide between this and What Whorse You Wrote Id On) Saetia - Closed Hands |
Most threads need more Cap'n Jazz : )
|
I'm gonna count Post- Emo, because my list would really suck without it.

Empire!- With Your Greatest Fears Realized, You Will not be Comforted Castevet- Stranger, You Know Monument- Breakfast My Heart To Joy- Empty Homes Touche Amore- Nine Hightide Hotel- Elementary Biology Monument- Busy Being Bees |
Changes all the time, naturally, but at the moment -

The Pine - Boarded Room Superstar - Marshall Tucker Lonely Broken Radio - Bigger Miracles Lion of the North - There's Always Next Year The Shivering - Every Breath Arrows - Clean Sheets Aren't Just For Keepers. |

i'm not here to start an argument, just to find some good new music, but i want to point out that i've never heard emo being used in the "music world" as a genre, so i'm thinking you can't really say what is emo and what's not, since it's not really a genre or hasn't been considered one by the music industry, js.
uhm, i would also like to point out that you can't say that one screamo band isn't emo and that another is, as they are both the same genre but you're classifying them as emo.. the only genre of music i've heard that's anywhere close to "emo" is emotive hardcore, but being called emo if you like emotive hardcore is considered an insult, so i really don't understand this whole, emo genre thing. |
|
"emo"?
Isn't that the word for "music" made by people who don't know how to play their instruments. |

But aren't The Clash considered punk? And J. Mascis played guitar for GG Allin - he is MORE than "competent" as a musician... And isn't "competent" synonymous with "run of the mill" "average" or "mediocre"? |
