Top 10 Emo Songs

Title says it all. Which ten emo songs are your favourite? For whatever reason.

I'm still working on it, myself.

(Sorry if this has been done already... I didn't think so, and the bull**** search won't let me search with the words "top" or "ten" or "emo")

NOTE:
MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE, BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE, FALL OUT BOY, ANBERLIN, ETC, ETC, ARE NOT EMO.

Pow R. Toc H. 06-04-2008 12:11 PM

a few of them are questionably emo like june and the junior varsity, but they're still along with the whole scene.

but I'd like to know what's so "wrong" with it

First off, they're not "emo"....they're just a pop punk/post hardcore watered down version of what it used to be.

Pow R. Toc H. 06-04-2008 05:42 PM

Few of those songs are pop punk or post hardcore

Loser 06-04-2008 07:25 PM

They all are.

none of them are emo, period. you'd know that if you listened to emo.

Pow R. Toc H. 06-04-2008 09:54 PM

I don't know what self conceived opinion on it you have, but 187 and I want to hear you sad are as emo as it gets.

false. senses fail is an absolute garbage band. none of those bands are emo/screamo in the least. i had no idea that genres were simply "opinions" considering they are based on music theory.

you just named 10 pop rock songs. wrong thread.

qft
Just because Fuse calls them emo doesn't make them emo. They have nothing to do with the genre at all.....Done.

Pow R. Toc H. 06-05-2008 11:34 AM

No, just because you say they're not emo doesn't mean they're not. You're basing it off your own opinion, not what the genre actually constitutes.

That's like mean saying the stones aren't rock, simply because I don't like them.

I'm not saying "I don't liek them , which means they're not emo" i'm stating a fact that they're not. There is no way you can say Et Tu Brute and Armor For Sleep remotely sound the same. I Hate Myself doesn't sound close to Junior Varsity. The bands you mentioned don't keep the original hardcore influences the 80's emo bands did, they're music was much more passionate and heartfelt. The bands mentioned put a poppy sound with "my girlfriend left me, and I feel so bad for myself" lyrics. If compare the 80's sound to what today calls emo, they hold no linkage in sound or song writing.

All of those are emo, except for Bullet for My Valentine. Just because you don't like it doesn't make it not emo.

Some favorites:
"A Picture Postcard"-The Promise Ring
"American Typewriter"-Braid
"Breakfast of Champions"-Rainer Maria
"Buddy Holly"-Weezer
"For Me This Is Heaven"-Jimmy Eat World
"In Circles"-Sunny Day Real Estate
"Interstate 8"-Modest Mouse
"Killed by an Angel"-Sunny Day Real Estate
"Leslie"-764-HERO
"Letter from a Concerned Follower"-Pedro the Lion

Laughing Boy 06-05-2008 06:52 PM

Modest Mouse isn't emo at all. I've listened to emo, I've listened to every Modest Mouse song released and unreleased, they're not emo. Interstate 8 isn't emo either. I think you have 90s indie confused with emo or something because I don't know how you could consider My Chemical Romance and Weezer in the same genre of music they sound nothing alike.

Them not being emo makes them not emo. Read the educate thread or don't post and if you disagree with everything I said in the education thread then please feel free to correct me in an intelligent manner with some back to it until then refrain from posting in here as it's spamming. Thanks.

Modest Mouse is very much emo. The only main album they've released that isn't emo is We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank. Some other emo songs that are nearly my favorite are "Never Ending Math Equation" and "The Stars Are Projectors".

Weezer isn't indie rock. Blondie and The Ramones are both punk artists, they sound different.

Edit: I didn't read what you typed sleepy jack until after I posted.

sleepy jack 06-05-2008 07:12 PM

If you're right it shouldn't be hard for you to argue it in here: http://www.musicbanter.com/hardcore-...on-thread.html should it?

I never said I disagreed with the education thread.

sleepy jack 06-05-2008 07:20 PM

If you don't then that means Modest Mouse, My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, Pedro The Lion, Anberlin, Weezer, etc are all not emo and you stated they were.

What the fuck? Listen either read it and disprove it or stop posting in here. It's frustrating when people spam these forums with bands that aren't emo while the rest of us are actually trying to talk about emo.

I approve of some of it and disapprove of other things.

sleepy jack 06-05-2008 07:29 PM

If you're not going to explain what you approve and disprove of and why then get out. I don't really have time for your vague statements that have no argument.
