last half fits more into Powerviolence.

Revolutionarypunk 07-04-2011 12:05 PM

Dashboard Confessional is not real emo. It is pop music hiding behind the label emo.

Revolutionarypunk 07-04-2011 12:53 PM

Powerviolence is intense, raw form of Hardcore Punk.
It is a sub-genre of Hardcore Punk.

BastardofYoung 07-04-2011 12:59 PM

yeah, owes as much to Grindcore as it does Hardcore.

SilenceArtist 07-06-2011 06:53 PM

I like Fugazi, Drive Like Jehu,Circa Surive, and Saosin (w/Anthony Green). Any recommendations?

BastardofYoung 07-06-2011 08:20 PM

Now, I don't really know any of the bands you listed, however, I am a fan of Minus The Bear, and I can tell you, they are most definitely not post-hardcore.
I don't like to nitpick with genres, like some users do, but they have a completely different sound, they're more experimental indie/math rock.

Rites of Spring is very similar to Fugazi, but they have an older Emo-tive vibe. At The Drive-In is also considered emo but I'd tag them more as post-hardcore. Hold Your Horse Is is another post-hardcore band and if you like them I'd reccomend Pulled Apart by Horses. Unwound is kind of similar to Drive Like Jehu too. I'd recommend more but I'm not very experinced in this genre yet. Hope I helped.

Lan Caihe 11-03-2011 08:18 PM

I love a ton of the bands in here, and there are a lot of them listed that I haven't listened to yet. Some of my favorites are Saetia, La Dispute, Moving Mountains (surprised they weren't mentioned more), Raein, and my absolute favorite BY FAR is Daitro.

So... Who can direct me toward some emo/screamo bands that are a lot like Daitro? I know they can't be THAT unique. So good though!

Keep up the good thread!

14232949 01-02-2012 05:22 PM

Hey guys, if I was to get one Joan of Arc album where they were at their most emo and least artsy, which one would it be?

Sneer 01-02-2012 05:34 PM

I don't know about least artsy, but Joan of Arc, Dick Cheney, Mark Twain is the best, in my opinion.

Scarlett.Kitty 04-29-2012 05:38 PM

So what are some really good emo bands? I'm trying to find some because I feel like I'm wearing mine out XD

Mondo Bungle 04-29-2012 06:13 PM

Any screamo bands that incorporate shoegaze?

When you say emo I'm going to assume, for now, that you mean stuff like Sunny Day Real Estate and Mineral as opposed to the name being used for "screamo" also. On the second option, I'll get to that in a second.

Mineral

American Football

Penfold

Jejune (Haven't heard much of them)

Now, if you don't mind stuff with screaming, I've got a lot more for you. Here you go. Some are pretty well-known for the genre so don't get at me if I'm coming off as a messenger of the obvious.

Saetia

City of Caterpillar

Raein (They're Italian! You can get their newest album for free on their website)

You and I (singing and screaming!)

Four Hundred Years

Funeral Diner

Yaphet Kotto (a good mixture of singing and unclean vocals)

Orchid's pretty good, but they came off as being nihilistic jerks to me. As TV Tropes says, your mileage may vary.

Some really good modern post-hardcore bands that are similar to the ones previously mentioned are La Dispute, Touche Amore and Pianos Become the Teeth.

Have fun listening!

specialolympicz 06-01-2012 01:08 PM

few cool uk bands:
lay it on the line
bastions
last witness
almeida

all of them are well worth checking out, all have free stuff on bandcamp

Justthefacts 06-01-2012 10:11 PM

I would recommend anyone to listen to At The Drive-In. Relationship Of Command is by far one of the best albums of this era.

HowLongIstheNight 06-01-2012 10:42 PM

^Definitely, they're a great band.

We've all heard it son.
You'll probably like their EP 'Vaya' too, it's much the same style.

You should also check out Glassjaw's 'Worship & Tribute'

HowLongIstheNight 06-02-2012 09:48 AM

I think that Acrobatic Tenement and especially In Casino/Out need more attention. 'Hourglass' is one of their best.

14232949 06-02-2012 11:54 AM

Yeah, but Worship & Tribute is closest to the style of Relationship of Command, ya dig?
I didn't hear Glassjaw's album from last year, did you?
If so, it worth a spin?

HowLongIstheNight 06-02-2012 06:09 PM

^I was talking about the other two LP's that At the Drive-In released. I haven't heard much Glassjaw, to be honest.

14232949 06-02-2012 07:48 PM

D'oh, what a foolish mistake I have made.
You are right and wrong. I like your first bit, but I also like Glassjaw, this is good.

HowLongIstheNight 06-02-2012 10:40 PM

Are we confused or something? I think I might have made a mistake when typing or something like that. I was just saying that AtDI's other two albums deserve more attention though Relationship of the Command is fantastic. I don't have anything against Glassjaw at all, I just haven't heard too much of their music. I'll check them out soon.

Urban Hat€monger ? 06-02-2012 10:43 PM

I thought the reason Acrobatic Tenement and In Casino/Out didn't get much attention is because they're not actually that good.

HowLongIstheNight 06-03-2012 11:42 AM

If that were the case then most of the bands discussed in the 'Hardcore and Emo' forum would be absolute crap, most likely.

Urban Hat€monger ? 06-03-2012 12:07 PM

How did you work that out?

14232949 06-03-2012 01:38 PM

I think he means that a lot of bands take influence from those albums.

Your statement came off as

"Not good=not much attention."

A lot of the bands discussed in this forum aren't very well known, but they aren't terrible, in the opinions of some, at least. But that's probably not exactly what you meant, so screw it.

Ellenlovespunkrock 06-07-2012 06:18 PM

You may like Inept hero, Particularly their song Shablagoo, it has some heavy parts. Check it out on youtube, "inept hero shablagoo"

In/Casino/Out is nearly on par with Relationship Of Command, though I can see how minimal experience with that album would lead you to this conclusion.

That said, Acrobatic Tenement doesn't do much for me.

Stephen 09-17-2012 05:47 PM

Any recommendations for classic thrash albums? I'm interested in the kind of albums that set the pace for the rest of the genre.

14232949 09-17-2012 05:56 PM

Think you're asking in the wrong place.
Take your query to the metal heads. I have absolutely no idea about thrash metal, sorry.

Yeah I was a bit confused about where the right place was. I figured hardcore recommendations was as good a place as any or am I getting my terminology confused?

barkjon 09-17-2012 08:42 PM

Sunny Day Real Estate
Fugazi
Thrice
Brand New
early Jimmy Eat World (i.e. first two albums)

I'd say thrash would fall into metal.
Not a genre Nazi by any means, but the two are pretty dissimilar (hardcore and thrash)
I could recommend you some hardcore I guess, but most of it'd be modern and I assume that's not what you're after?

I'd say the metal recommendations thread would be the place to ask about thrash, but that said, and assuming you're already familiar with Metallica's classic thrash albums, here's a few thrash albums I highly recommend:

Slayer—Reign in Blood (if you haven't already heard it for some reason)
Sodom—Agent Orange
Death Angel—The Ultra-Violence
Kreator—Pleasure to Kill
Morbid Saint—Spectrum of Death
