hopesfall is brilliant. A-types is a little soft but The Bending is probably the best softer disc I own

A2L 02-24-2005 01:51 AM

^that's what I'm saying. I think the Frailty of Words was ****ing awesome. It's exactly like you say, like someone cut off their balls.

those are local bands in my area. we must be close to eachother. section 8 is sooo terrible, the only thing they're good for is making fun of. though Arms Akimbo and Broken Front show talent in theyre music, even if i dont really like them.

I'm by no means an expert, so I'm hoping to get the genre fiends opinions on this.

In the hardcore thread I posted As I Lay Dying, FAtA, Hopesfall, etc. As did others, everyone accepted they were hardcore... yet in this forum people are saying their screamo. Which is it, what's teh difference... I kinda thought I knew until this came up...

Sorry for bringing up the whole genre thing... from the little time I've been on this board i kinda noticed that genre labeling is a touchy issue.

Hardcore (Frost will of course disagree) is anything that is heavy and involves mostly screamed vocals. Screamo is usually softer with a mix of screamed and sung vocals. As I Lay Dying is metalcore. FATA is screamo. Hopesfall is screamo (well until A-types came out, now their just emo rock). Genres can mean what you want them to.

Zealious 02-26-2005 02:09 PM

Listen to Die, Emperor! Die!. If you're really anal about genres then you could put them in Acoustic Screamo/Post Emo/Screamo.

Basically screamo has become emo and emo has turned into catchy pop.

hopefornothing 03-02-2005 07:52 AM

did you mean to use the word screamo 2 times??

Hey why don't you read my post

"Acoustic Screamo/Post Emo/Screamo"

hopefornothing 03-03-2005 08:18 AM

hah sorry i didn't see the acustic in front of the first screamo my bad

OnMyNeRvEsSxDX 03-18-2005 01:11 AM

Emo: A much-maligned, mocked, and misunderstood term for melodic, expressive, and confessional punk rock. = Or in other words a pussies veriosn of something they think is punk rock.

That is All

ArtistInTheAmbulance 03-18-2005 02:48 AM

You could have at least posted that in an emo thread.. Technically this isnt emo

TillyLovesYew 03-20-2005 09:40 AM

Dunno if this helps but My Chemical Romance are kinda screamo in some places.

riseagainstrocks 03-20-2005 04:36 PM

not really. yes they do scream. but for a combined total of like 30 seconds on a 40 minute album

Cheer Up Emo Kid 03-24-2005 07:52 AM

i like **** like poison the well. atreyu is good too, but they may be more metalcore than screamo, but they still kick ass.

hardcorekidssuck 03-25-2005 12:05 PM

I don't know about you guys.... but I think about 95% of screamo SUCKS GIANT ****!!!

ArtistInTheAmbulance 03-25-2005 12:08 PM

What 5% do you like? Im interested...

hardcorekidssuck 03-26-2005 07:12 AM

noises and kisses by the used, blue and yellow by the used, a couple songs i dont remember the name of by my chemical romance (not really all that screamo........I know) and theres a couple songs by finch. These arent the hardest core screamo, but I've always placed these bands with all the other screamo, thus I listed them. AND the used and finch, it seems, have been around alot longer alot of these other screamo bands, even if I never really even liked the used that much back when they were the only popular screamo band practically.

hardcorekidssuck 03-26-2005 07:12 AM

and I only gave that blurb because you were 'interested'. hehe....

ArtistInTheAmbulance 03-26-2005 07:19 AM

I was actually interested.. I wouldnt class those as screamo but I see where youre coming from... Kk fair enough, I just wondered is all.

hardcorekidssuck 03-26-2005 07:26 AM

lol you wouldn't. mmkay... but I actually just saw an advertisement at the top of the website that said 'screamo'--download the used and more here for free... but hey, the thing is there is always more hardcore stuff in whatever genre your talking about so the thing is. I understand where YOUR coming from.

ArtistInTheAmbulance 03-26-2005 07:30 AM

Noise and kisses and Blue and Yellow by the Used are lighter songs than the other stuff on that album... And seeing as in those two songs there isnt much screaming and its not really heavy or screamo type stuff (In my opinion) I wouldnt class those two as screamo... But with Finch I understand a bit more I guess...

But meh, thats just my attempt at understanding genres, so dont take any notice of what I say :D

Zealious 03-26-2005 09:08 AM

Let me clear this whole screamo thing up for everyone:

ANYTHING hardcorekidssuck says is screamo is not.

Like I don't even care if you talk about the used or Finch on the emo forum, but please please please don't label for your sake.

hardcorekidssuck 03-26-2005 05:18 PM

whatever, I was just trying to explain how I felt about it-- chill out dude. But just for kicks whats 'real' (hardcore) screamo, since you obviously know....

riseagainstrocks 03-26-2005 05:59 PM

the genre doesn't exist. screamo is what emo is supposed to be. when emo became Dashboard and Taking Back Sunday, screamo was invented to put bands like Underoath and Alexisonfire in a catagory.

Zealious 03-26-2005 06:17 PM

One band that could be put into the Screamo genre is Saetia. If you want, I can send you a couple songs by them. Just PM me

hardcorekidssuck 03-26-2005 10:07 PM

that sounds like a pretty exclusive genre.... kind of goofy that bands who tend to scream alot and sing emotional music wouldn't categorize as screamo BUT i have my own means to check them out and I will..... and lol Ill get so pissed if they sound exactly like all those other bands (you know what bands Im talking about).

echoes 06-01-2005 04:03 AM

funeral for a friend scream quite a lot

screamo was around 10 years before these bands. heroin , mohinder, twelve hour turn, amalgamation, pg.99... those bands sound nothing like underoath and alexisonfire.

Trauma 06-02-2005 10:17 PM

Iconoclast, Moss Icon, Sleepytime Trio, Still Life, Swing Kids, Angel Hair, and I love Heroin.

This man speaks the truth. New Underoath stuff is just pop-punk with screaming and so is Alexisonfire's Watch Out only to a lesser degree. Not sure what their old album would fall under. Neither sound remotely like Screamo though.

somethingisrunningonempty 06-07-2005 11:59 PM

Suggestion

First off, I love how many people have Brand New quotes in the forum. Brand New rocks steady. Eo the person who is asking for band suggestions, try Scary Kids Scaring Kids, Made to Break, Stutterfly, From First to Last, Underoath, Cheerleader 666, of course Thursday, Makeshift Memory, Deathly Egocentric, and other **** like that. For an extensive list of indie bands with free music downloads, pics, etc; go to www.purevolume.com
Does anyone like the Bloc Party?
Somethingisrunningonempty

CastAwayCure 06-10-2005 02:12 PM

I would reccomend Underoath, From Autumn To Ashes, and some of the earlier stuff from Funeral For A Friend (FFAF aren't totaly screamo though)

SpeaknSpell 06-15-2005 09:12 PM

underoath is good. funeral for a friend has some ok stuff. fear before the march of flames is good.

.angie. 06-15-2005 09:21 PM

underoath is amazing, it's odd they're christian..
