Screamo

Well, lately I've really been getting into this umm subgenre. I was wondering if anyone has a band they'd like to reccomend, something a little off of the mainstream. Lets see here, I listen to, in varying degrees of screamo-ness Finch, Taking Back Sunday, Brand New, The Used, A Static Lullaby, Vendetta Red, Dead Poetic, Emery, and Beloved. Now what am I missing?

winterslastbreath 03-15-2004 07:48 PM

hopesfall .. underoath..

they're screamers. :p:

banonbush 03-15-2004 10:12 PM

Senses Fail?
Saosin
I know you said away from 'mainstream', but I have to say Thursday, as they rule.

Thrice 03-16-2004 08:55 AM

...Thrice and From autumn to ashes.

Brokenbutsmiling 03-16-2004 09:22 AM

yeah, thursday does rock. I'm not too big a fan of Sense's Fail, they do have some good songs though. I've not heard much thrice, I'm looking into them right now. Thanks guys for all the others too.

Eltiraaz 03-16-2004 05:30 PM

EMERY!! finally someone else who even KNOWS about these guys!! nice nice emery rrocks. I wanna get their album (Weak's End) but I'm pretty sure I'll have to order it. I like Thursday aswell, The Used are pretty mainstream I'd say :| but yes I like them aswell.

Brokenbutsmiling 03-16-2004 07:06 PM

I saw Emery with Dead Poetic and a few other bands a couple of weeks ago. Man, they rock hard. And they put on a decent show too.

abakubub 03-21-2004 06:19 PM

Saetia! Kite Flying Society! Frail (not The Frail, just Frail)! Hoorah for subgenres....

IamAlejo 03-24-2004 03:57 PM

From Autumn to Ashes is probably my favorite Screamo bands. But they are heading more "main stream" if you will...so I don't know if that's what you are looking for. Of course every band you mentioned in your first post is more main stream than these guys, so maybe not.

winterslastbreath 03-24-2004 04:39 PM

:( i hate that.. i'm also with you-one of my fav. bands.. i hate to see them mainstream and be ruined like some others.

Thrice 03-25-2004 09:04 PM

I love them...thats why i said them!

emocapella 05-30-2004 09:31 AM

omfg, brokenbutsmiling. lets get something straight. Brand New, Taking Back Sunday, Brand New, Vendetta Red, Dead Poetic are not screamo. Just because they scream a lil DOES NOT make them screamo. Finch i agree with u on, in addiiton to asl. Silverstein is also a great screamo band. Oh and whoever said senses fail is emo...hate to break it to you...THEY'RE NOT
But silverstein is definitely a screamo band u should check out.

emocapella 05-30-2004 09:32 AM

woops, said brand new twice

anthm_dying_day 05-30-2004 11:47 AM

haha dan dont get so heated over this.

from autumn to ashes is amazing, that guys voice is awesome, but they also have a second singer who sings normal...and sometimes they sing together and its awesome. theres also this girl on the cd...she definetly doesnt scream but its still cool.

i dont know what you would call atreyu...screamo, metal, hardcore...im not even going to classify them because everytime someone does that they get yelled at. so ill jsut say....atreyu screams a lot and i definetly reccomend them but sometimes people dont like the really heavy aspect of their music.

Pimp_racer 05-30-2004 05:35 PM

u should listen to funeral for a friend. some of there stuff is screamo and its good

starEied 05-30-2004 06:53 PM

Q and not U, their kinda what your looking for.. i like em

Thrice 05-31-2004 05:38 PM

Too Late I Went To Barnes And Noble Today...i Told You If You Want Me To Burn It Come Over And Kick My Ass Into Doing It.

AutumnWinds 06-02-2004 08:17 AM

heres my lil list of bands! (even though its hard to put bands into genres these days!)
Million Dead, story of the year, my chemical romance, hundred reasons, hot water music, hidden in plain view, hell is for heroes, fall out boy, the escape engine......

David Frost 06-04-2004 09:28 PM

Check out my new band

Iceberg.

www.icebergiceberg.cjb.net

Thrice 06-07-2004 05:51 PM

good music, but i didnt really like the vocalists voice, but once he hits puberty it shall all be good for you guys :)

David Frost 06-12-2004 10:16 AM

hes actually about way past that stage. his vocals are purposely that way. if you ever heard spirit of versailles or jeromes dream, they are all far past puberty and their vocalists screams are just as high.

IamAlejo 06-12-2004 08:30 PM

I hate vocalists with high voices, so it's not my thing. My Chemical Romance puts on a great show, saw them with Thrice last year.

kind of like asia 06-19-2004 01:13 PM

I'm looking for Spirit of Versailles lyrics.. google has failed me yet again, is there no other place than the music itself where I could upturn a lyrical stone?

David Frost 06-19-2004 08:34 PM

Good Choice. SOV is an amazing band. http://www.cmhwak.net/sov/ . that was their official website. While your surfing the web, check out my new band www.icebergiceberg.cjb.net . if you dig spirit of versailles, i think you may enjoy it.

poetictragedy 08-22-2004 07:58 AM

my screamo choices are the used, my chemical romance, a static lullaby, alexisonfire, blindside( not sure it that really classifies), thursday and thrice.

Zealious 08-22-2004 08:23 AM

The screamo that most of you listen to is really watered down if you know what I mean. Sorta like pop with some screams attached. Try listening to Saetia. I consider them to be true screamo, but what do I know...

Try Endymion-Saetia
Venus and Baacchus-Saetia

-Some screamo by Sleepytime Trio

If you like Saetia, you should get their "A Retrospective" CD its really good.

Thanks for taking time to listen to some good music

Ok, I don't want to start a genre war here or anything... but some of the bands people are posting I thought were more hardcorish...

I'm by no means an expert, so I'm hoping to get the genre fiends opinions on this.

In the hardcore thread I posted As I Lay Dying, FAtA, Hopesfall, etc. As did others, everyone accepted they were hardcore... yet in this forum people are saying their screamo. Which is it, what's teh difference... I kinda thought I knew until this came up...

Sorry for bringing up the whole genre thing... from the little time I've been on this board i kinda noticed that genre labeling is a touchy issue.
