I'll go into it with an open mind, thats for sure! I do believe they had something special back in their heyday, and you can't deny the overt catchiness and great writing in songs like Live Forever... so I don't deny them of a chance of greatness!
|
I really have to say this. DO NOT judge Blur on just Song 2 and Boys and Girls. While those are the two popular songs you hear on the radio, that is by no means even a half decent representation of their music. My personal favorite album by the band is "Leisure" or "Parklife". I could never pick between the two.
So can you guess who I prefer? My vote goes to Blur. That said, I love Oasis as well, but it sounds like their just trying to conform these days to be more popular... yuck. |

I'd say Oasis are currently making whatever the hell they want to make without too much focus on sales and popularity. |
I haven't heard enough Blur music to make an honest choice, but for now I'd go for Oasis.
I agree that they are way too ****y. Way to much ego. But at the end of the day, it's the music we must judge and not the artists behaviour. I recently bought their album 'Stop The Clocks'. Great stuff! All the great hits are there. Then I looked at the booklet inside... I was shocked! The very first line is this: "They came into our lives in April 94, as the body of Kurt Cobain lay newly dead, like a starshaped tambourine shattering through a window." Now that is Bull****! No one messes with Kurt! The rest is all about how great they are and it's written by them! But the music is still good, both Oasis and Nirvana, despite what they might say. |

Oasis hands down, they can write catchy songs that actually have substance. Just listen to (What's The Story) the whole way through and you'll understand

Oasis are miles better, hell there my favorite band of all time. Liam Gallaghers voice is so magic and Noel Gallagher regardless if he steals bits and pieces from past artist is still one of the best songwriters of our time. MG and DM is the best debut and sophomore album combo of all time. I enjoy just about every record they've put out besides the dull Heathen Chemistry (which if you really look into Oasis it's the only album they tried to relive past glories). Be Here Now is bloated but it fits the band perfectly at the time, with their new found success and their Cocaine abuse. Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants is great it has a couple of dull tracks but its production is top notch and its like the hang over record from Be Here Now. Don't Believe The Truth is another great retro 60s album its only got a few real stand outs, The Importance of being Idle being one of them, but as a collection of songs its solid all the way through. DOYS is probably the best record since MG because Noel has refound the magic of writing in the studio and everything sounds like magic. It tails of near the end due to Andy Bell and Liam's "ok" songwriting but Noel's songs on DOYS are creative, fresh, and as strong as they were in the mid 90s.
Blur are a great pop band and Damon and Alex are some of the best musicial minds of their time its just I've always preferred Oasis. |

8. "To Be Where There's Life" Gem Archer 4:35 9. "Ain't Got Nothin'" L. Gallagher 2:15 10. "The Nature of Reality" Andy Bell 3:48 11. "Soldier On" L. Gallagher I'd say 3 out of those 4 were good tunes, the odd one out being Liams Aint Got Nothing. However that song aint half as bad as High Horse which is Noels and the worst track on the record. Noels tunes are decent on this record, im not arguing that but 2 out of 3 of Liams are really good I think, as are Gems and Andy's. |
Oasis :D
****ing love them. Had a ciggarette with Liam once, not that any one will believe me. |
Love britpop! I'd choose Pulp over both of them!
"Theres No Other Way" & "Coffee and TV" are my favourite Blur songs. Can't say i've heard alot of their stuff though, so I'd have to go with Oasis over them. Despite the Oasis boys really working their ego's out on 90% of anything i've ever seen of them in the media. They've done alot of good stuff, some real classics. |
Blur for me, always (L)
|
Ruth Inking - YES! Pulp was a much better band than both of them - maybe didn't scale the heights of fame both bands acheived, but as far as musical quality goes, I'd take This is Hardcore, We Love Life, His N' Hers and a Different Class over anything by both Oasis and Blur - I still listen to them quite a bit today, even thought the band is now well and truly defunct...
And it's a real shame they're aren't together anymore... miss 'em... |
His n Hers was a brilliant album! Pink Glove and Have You Seen Her Lately are my favourites by far! Definitely wipe Oasis and Blur out of the window!
Jarvis hails from Sheffield, about half an hour away from me  I mean, I hate to be a twat, but how cool is that!? |
PULP<<
|
I'm glad to be finding concensus on this issue!

Pulp was so underrated Jarvis ****er is one of the most underrated guys out there and he is just plain cool. |

Even then, they are a hell of a lot better than Little James and Put Yer Money Where Your Mouth Is which are, without a doubt, the two worst album tracks Oasis have ever produced. |
Ugh, Little James is one of the most atrocious songs I've ever heard...
And hey there is NOTHING wrong with having a kid, anbd loving him or her with absolutely everything you've got... I have three which I love more than life itself... But man if you are going to try to immortalize that love in song form, you could come up with something a little more poignant and timeless than "thank you for your smile, you make it all worthwhile..." Worst. parental. love song. ever. |

Blur's got the balls. Oasis has the uuhhhh yeah... not much going on there. Lots of teenie girls in the states love it. That's about it for what oasis has going for them.

Blur of course.
|
Now, as unsubstantiated as thatis, I gotta agree.... its Blur all the way for me!

I'll take oasis in this battle. I just like more songs by them than by blur. I'll take the verve over blur.
|
The Verve were pretty darn good, not sure what their new material is like now they've reformed, but I completely fell in love with Urban Hymns in its day, and it doesn't sound like their previous stuff was all that shabby either...
|
|
Must seek that out real soon...
|
i'd have to say oasis
|
Reason?
|
Oasis had one of the biggest fall offs ever. I recently went back and listened to their later albums, after 'whats the story', and none of them touch their first two albums. I always thought their sophomore effort was better than their debut also.
|
Cash-in or no cash-in, I can't wait to see Blur on tour. I think at least 2 of them still have the musical ability to be relevant now.
|
Woah! This is a hard one. I'll have to say Oasis, and just because I've listened to them for a longer time. But I also like Blur very much and musically they are equal in my mind
|
Ummm...no?
