Death From Above 1979
for those who havent heard these guys before, i advise you to check them out. they are similiar to the white stripes format in that they are 2-piece, one on drums and one on guitar. their sound is similiar to that of bands such as Ikara Colt and the stripes themselves. that said they have their own style and their own sound despite containg traces of the aforementioned groups. so im done selling this band to you, check them out if you havent already and if you have, what do think of them?

i heard those guys but im not to into them. his bass sound is awesome though
They were actually on Conan O'brien the other night. It was my first time hearing them and they blew my mind into itty-bitty pieces. It was funny though max weinburg rushed over to play drums with them midway through the song and couldnt get his jacket off so he started out playing with it hanging off his arms, but anyway, yeah, those guys are QUALITY!
I like what Ive heard, they dont remind me too much of the White Stripes though...
I agree. They have more of a (dare I say) Bleach era Nirvana feel to them.
Got thier album earlier today , i`ll let you know in an hour or so
I've downloaded bits and bobs of this album, never listened to it as a whole, but I obviously liked it as its still here, which many bands don't manage. Will have to give them a proper listen, in the correct order and comment properly.

I bought Frances The Mute the same day , not heard that either. |
Death From Above 1979
These guys are amazing.

great band. a souped up, electro- sizzled version of the white stripes. the album is class.
i saw this really cool thing on them last year, or the beginning of this year. i was blown away at their sound! i haven't heard about their album though, just a few songs! they seem so genuine too from what i saw, it was cool!
I like them. Very much so.. I want to find more of them, and I will do once Ive got more money. Betcha wanted to know that :)
went to see them and it was one of the best gigs ive ever been to, supported by metric.....equally awsome and innovative..... but dfa 79 were awsome. its incredible how 2 guys can make so much noise with such precision (like the white stripes but both guys) and the singer/drummer does an amaing job. just try siniging and drumming at a mental pace for a couple of hours and get it bang on, not easy, class act bassically
They are an awesome and quite unique band. The most recognizable drum and bass duo also. I have a lot of respect for the drummer, because he is also the lead singer. I would love to see these guys live. My favorite tracks are "Black History Month", "Turn it Out", "Blood On Your Hands", "Girl U R Lovely", and "Better Off Dead".
Words cannot describe how much I love this band. I got the album in January on import (I couldn't wait for it to be released in the UK) and it hasn't really been off my stereo since.
the only sad thing is i can't get on to their website, i'd loves to see it!
OK I gotta pIss on the "I LOVE DFA 1979 2005" Parade (you coulda come up with a less confusing name btw) by saying that these are the two most arrogant average toss-collectors I have come across (dont pardon the pun) in years and they shall (all going well) disappear into nothingness by the time the "I LOVE DFA 1979 2006 parade comes around, or perhaps be run over by one of the floats...
Blood On Your Hands is fairly all-rightish though...If it wasnt about womens menstrual effluence of course (they actually admitted that...Even Im not sick enough to come up with that one!) OMFG Theyre Canadian too....There just begging for this.... |
^
i got a few of their songs and i think theyre alright but i need to check em out some more... |

Id love to see Bloc Party playimg Mardi Gras actually.... "OI! KELE! 3 BEADS FOR A FLASH OF YOUR TITS!"...
Not nearly as good as Pete Doherty at the *** Pride march though... |
lol "the indie bar kid" who cares if they are canadian? i dont dislike a band because of their nationality. And i presume you havnt seen them in concert? And i perdonally would rather them stay at their current populatrity then sore to a band like the white strips or someother indie band that has moved into a more pop culture icon
Still not worked out if I like them yet

As far as DFA goes, I wouldn't mind going to pay to see them, but they don't really play the kind of style I can listen to for longer than 30 minutes. |
They are quite awesomely crazy, with the crazy-awesome bassist, and the drummer that sings. And they also just have awesome music. Listen to them unless you have an irrational fear of good music.
Death from above 1979 are a top band, be good to see them at Leeds

well in essence- thats what they are.
well i like drum and bass so i'll check them out
i'd say they have very little to do with the drum'n'base sound....
if you look at the band in the most simplistic way, they are a drumkit and a bass guitar fuzzed up. i didnt literally mean clubland drum'n'bass you fool.
well that's what i asked buttmunch!
bump.
I like them a lot. I like two men fronts. Definitely something different and one of the few recent bands that I find myself into. |
I love em, their really fun...don't read into them to much more than that though.
If you like duos an equally amazing band is Mates of State...listen to "team boo" |
Yet again you prove to be a cool noob.
<33333333333333333333333333333DFA79 Their new album is going to be recorded three different ways. One is with a full band (guitar, drums, bass, and synth) and then there is going to be the normal DFA and then a remix album. w00t *can't wait* |
Sounds real awesome. I can't wait.

I love their noisy, sludgy sound. Youre a Woman I'm a Machine is a sweet album.

Check out their Romantic Rights EP, it's got early versions of Romantic Rights (who figured?) and Pull Out. And a remix of some song (I can't remember the name). But it's good stuff. |
