A songs popularity has no bearing on their morales within the industry. I saw modest mouse on the unlimited sunshine tour with Cake. I thought they were god awful then and with the exception of Float on, I still think they are, so from this persons perspective, they havn't changed anything about them.

Modest Mouse

Does anyone like Modest Mouse? My fav song by them is Float on. That is how I got my name. I also like "The Good times are killing me"

KeasbySlang 08-30-2004 11:06 AM

The thing that I hate about Modest Mouse is that I've been listening to their stuff for a couple years and so has my brother, we've both gotten crap about their name the whole time, we went and saw them and whenever I would wear a modest mouse tshirt my friends would always use their name to make fun of them, and then Float On came out and they all tell everyone that they've been listening to them forever, which sucks because they went from making fun of them because they had "a stupid name" to loving them just because one song got big. I think Modest Mouse deserves the fame their getting and this happens alot with bands that get big, but I hate it when people judge a band by their name or if their male or female or any other stupid reasonings to hate them.

AFakeJamaican 08-30-2004 11:11 AM

No one like Modest mouse? Now that is just too sad.....

franscar 08-30-2004 01:57 PM

Surely what you've said there is no reason to hate Modest Mouse, surely its more of a reason to ignore people who judge bands on anything other than the music. Yes, it's a rubbish name for a band, but so is Led Zeppelin.

ally 08-30-2004 02:16 PM

theyre decent....float on is overplayed though.

David Frost 08-30-2004 02:54 PM

float on is not good.

their new cd is not good.

anything before that is amazing. some of the best stuff ever. i hate that they are getting popular off of their sub-par stuff

franscar 08-30-2004 04:26 PM

What's wrong with that though? They are getting popular, meaning that more people know who they are, and can go out and buy the old cd's. They can still play the old tracks live, and that means nothing but good things surely?

AFakeJamaican 08-30-2004 05:07 PM

Seriously mr "David Frost" there new album rocks. And So do they. Don't diss Modest Mouse.

Runaway 08-31-2004 09:14 AM

 Oh good, another person who cant take criticisms of their favourite bands..

David Frost 08-31-2004 09:40 AM

i wasnt "dissing" modest mouse... i love that band, i have for 4 years. they have been one of my favorite indie bands for quite some time now. however, the new cd is absolutely nothing compared to their old stuff, that is a fact. that is all i was saying. if you actually have heard stuff before float on, you would know what i was talking about.

Runaway 08-31-2004 09:46 AM

I've never heard of them. What do you suggest I download first to give them a try?

I suggest Float On, Ocean Breaths Salty, and The Good Times are Killing Me.

David Frost 08-31-2004 10:52 AM

if you want to hear good modest mouse... there is only one choice for the best...

dramamine

AmyLeeFan 08-31-2004 02:33 PM

Modest Mouse is like a Breath of fresh air! I love EVERY track on the good news CD!

AFakeJamaican 08-31-2004 03:21 PM

I agree there David.

ThriceItUpKnotch! 09-06-2004 07:42 PM

Modest Mouse can blow me. They suck big time.

David Frost 09-06-2004 07:46 PM

Slackjawed Presidents 11-14-2004 10:27 PM

how would you know you don't have the cd.

and yes their older stuff is much better but don't
make judgements on something you know nothing about.

Thrice can blow me they are nothing but a teeny- bop pop- punk band

Jonah 11-17-2004 09:55 AM

There are only 2 ways to think about them; you either like them or hate them. I enjoy them. My favorite songs are "Never ending math equation", "Polar Opposites", "Trailer Trash", and "Heart cooks brain"

franscar 11-17-2004 10:16 AM

I'm going to see them on Friday. Looking forward to it.

silvermoon 11-18-2004 06:52 AM

I don't own their cd but I do like the song the radio plays and have seen the video that
vh1 and mtv & mtv2 plays. I like thier song alot. Its pretty good. I think it would be a cd worth owning in the furture.

Oi_To_The_World 11-18-2004 04:00 PM

if you like the radio cuts like float on, ocean breeze, etc. then maybe you guys should check out some of their older goodies like...
dramamine, broke, out of gas, cowboy dan, polar opposites, never ending math equation, **** luck....

C-Lydian 11-18-2004 07:42 PM

no

Oi_To_The_World 11-18-2004 07:46 PM

yes

AmyLeeFan 02-09-2005 08:31 PM

Modest Mouse

I can't belive how great their music is! It's so pretty! Does anyone agree?
I hope so! :)

jibber 02-09-2005 08:43 PM

they're a great band, I'm more of a fan of their earlier stuff. It's not so mucht that I dislike their new stuff, just not really crazy about it. But I'm not sure I'd describe their music as pretty...

AmyLeeFan 02-09-2005 08:49 PM

Oh, tell me what Modest Mouse CDs you have? I only have the new one.

anti_poptart_chik 02-09-2005 09:13 PM

Yeh i like the last album as well, thats because i havent heard the others tho, i only heard of them last yr n no one i know in australia likes their songs

jibber 02-09-2005 09:21 PM

Check out This is a Long Drive for Someone With Nothing to Think About (1996), The Lonesome Crowded West (1997), Building Something Out of Nothing (1999), Baron Von Bulls*it Rides Again, all of these are great albums

AmyLeeFan 02-09-2005 11:01 PM

I read they started out in '93 in a shed behind his (Isaac Brock) mother's trailer. Look at them now!

Jonah 02-10-2005 08:58 AM

I like modest mouse. My favorite work of theirs has to be from 97' "Lonesome Crowded West" and "The Fruit That Ate Itself" are really good cds. Their new stuff sounds good as well. =)

hookers with machineguns 02-10-2005 09:10 AM

They sign with a major label, then suddenly people are saying Float On is the best song in the world. Their most recent release contains nothing like their ealier work like Dramamine, Lounge, Tiny City Made of Ashes, Broke, Never Ending Math Equation, or Out of Gas. I agree wit Jib for the most part. Their new one had some good ones, lots of bad ones, and two of the most annoying singles I've ever heard.

Urban Hat€monger ? 02-10-2005 11:03 AM

I`ve never EVER seen what the big deal about this band is.

Modest Mouse to me were one of the most overrated dullest bands ever , and this conclusion was reached from listening to their old stuff , not this new 'sell out' or whatever Modest Mouse.

It`s not that they`re bad , I`ve just heard this kind of stuff done time & time again by thousands of other bands.

ArtistInTheAmbulance 02-10-2005 11:09 AM

I have never liked them, and I doubt I will later on... I dont know what it is about them, they just dont sound appealing to me at all.

They're sellouts because they came out with a popular tune...

spearmint 02-11-2005 08:53 AM

oh who cares if they sold out and made it big...I think they're good and just because they're signed to sony? (I think) makes no difference whatsoever I still like them
