I'd have preferred this:

Both informative and practical.

Yeah those are great, especially "Never Ending Math Equation". I loved that comp from the start because I got it pretty much right when I became a fan, along with TM&A and TLCW. But it's true there are a number of slower and more depressing songs on it than on the proper albums. I still feel all the songs are solid though, well worthy of having been released.

I'd love to see your signature/links too, but the huge and obnoxious ones have caused me to block all signatures.

One thing I don't understand is how bands don't include some of their best songs on an album, such as MM's 'Never Ending Math Equation'...

Well it (along with most/all of the songs on that comp) were released as EPs. I love a good solid EP, so I don't mind some great songs being on those and not on LPs. If these were outtakes/unreleased tracks, I'd agree with you.

Also, taste is subjective...maybe the band didn't like it as much as other songs they did put on albums.

I've heard good things about these guys but never took the time to explore their body of work. Can anyone recommend me a few standout songs these guys have?

Modest Mouse is pretty good, but the only album I actually listen to is 'We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank'. Exactly how old is this band? My language arts teacher says one of their songs was her wedding song. Not that I'm calling her old...

formed in 1993, with their debut album releasing in 1996. we were dead is a solid album. but it's certainly lesser modest mouse in my mind. if you want more, I highly recommend checking out:

The Lonesome Crowded West
The Moon & Antarctica

I've got the Moon & Antarctica. I'll see if I can get the other one, thanks. But what do you mean, 'lesser' Modest Mouse? It's not their normal work?
