Stone Roses - S/T vs. Pixies - Dootlittle

Arguably the two most important Alternative albums to be released in 1989. Arguably two of the most important Alternative albums of all time. Without the Roses, there'd be no Oasis, without Pixies there'd be no Nirvana.

Musically they're styles apart but I think both bands have similar stories and parrallel histories, and as these two albums are considered to be the magnum opus of each respective band, I thought I'd do a little poll. But which one do you choose?

For me, tough as it is, I'm going to go with The Stone Roses. The perfect pop album, brings back so many memories. Each track is an anthem, and the whole album is a soundtrack to a generation. Their songs still send shivers down my spine.

Pixies, I love them and listening to their songs also give me a sense of nostalgia, but for me, Dootlittle is pipped by the Roses' debut.

Stone Roses, easy

Pixies, by an absolute country mile. Although I do prefer Surfer Rosa (****ing Gigantic!), I just really don't dig The Stone Roses at all.

So yeah. Doolittle.

Really tough choice but in the end chose Doolittle because of it being one of the first albums I fell in love with although Stone Roses was the first album I got bought for me. In Doolittle I feel thattheres not a bad or dull moment and all songs have a differant feel and there is a better contrast between tracks whereas with Stone Roses the songs all have a taste of their signature "baggy" sound. Also midway through the Stone Roses I get kind of bored. Its quite strange that the OP mentioned britpop vs. grunge as although im picking Doolittle I prefer Britpop over Grunge.

Stone Roses>Pixies.
It meant so much to so many, and still does if you're British or even Irish.

Would anyone take offense if I change the title of the thread to "Landmark album for British Music vs. Landmark album for North American Music"? That's all what this thread is. I don't think us North Americans quite understand just how much of an impact the Britpop scene had on your music. Sure we got to hear Blur and Oasis go at it for number one but in the end it was just words on paper or images on screens, and I think not being there to experience it is really going to skew your idea of how much of an impact The Stone Roses had in jump starting that scene.

I dunno that's just my interpretation of the whole thing and for me it's going to be Doolittle because well... it's fucking Doolittle! I still remember sitting in my uncles car coming back from like... my 2nd or 3rd day at working in a lumber yard and him putting that album on and just being completely blown away. I had the day off the next day and immediately went out and got that album and enjoyed the hell out of it until I lent it to someone and it got stolen. Pixies have had a far greater impact on my guitar playing as they were one of the first bands I wanted to learn and if I ever get together with a band, regardless of what genre we play, we're doing a cover of "Tame".

Debaser is the only Pixies song I need... The Stone Roses and their s/t just don't do it for me.

I give this poll question a Meh.
These are easily two of the best musical products of their time. I love them both and won't choose.
