Can anyone recommend me a band similar to the pixies or the violent femmes?

I'm looking for some songs that employ a lot of guitar distortions (so nothing acoustic please), like these songs:
  • "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana
  • "Song 2" by Blur
  • "Elevator" by the Black Keys
  • "Violet Hill" by Coldplay
  • "Do What You Want" by OK Go

If anyone has any suggestions of similar albums lemme know. I'm kinda new to this stuff and I'm sure I've missed a lot :p.
I haven't heard much of Empire of the Sun's album, but if you liked Hearthrob, I'd definitely recommend MS MR and their latest album Secondhand Rapture. You also might like Tove Lo or Parade of Lights. They're both up 'n' coming.

Anyone got any recommendations of bands similar to these?
Ooh my specialty is indie rock. Portugal. The Man is really one to add to your collection, especially their latest album. If you're looking for more indie stuff, you might like Grizfolk, Bear Hands, Alt-J, or Atlas Genius. Hope that helps!

I want new groups that some-what revolve around the sound of the groups listed. But I am open to entirely new sounds, sort of not as known groups.
I'd put Modest Mouse and Fleet Foxes into more of a folksy category. For those two, I'd recommend Snowmine, The Head and the Heart, maybe The Shins (earlier stuff?). I don't have much overlap with the other bands in your list, but the band Temples is pretty new and they definitely have a Beatles-esque sound.

Which albums from of Montreal, sigur rós and The National would you recommend? I've heard many people commend them.
The National's Trouble Will Find Me is not only my favorite album of The National's, but also my favorite album of all time. Literally every song on there is gold, but my favorites are "Don't Swallow the Cap", "I Need my Girl", and "Fireproof".

I'd disagree - I think the National are boring, and Trouble Will Find Me is their most boring album. High Violet, Boxer, and Alligator are all better ("Bloodbuzz Ohio" is a really good song, and the only other one of theirs I'd say that about is maybe "Mr. November").
