Dr. Seussicide so sorry only just popped back into this thread, was a bit stoned when I posted that up the other day but cheers or the response funnily enough I downloaded Red House Painters yesterday and then saw it here, so I'm going to listen to Down Colourful Hill now, will give the others a go too. Been enjoying a lot of downbeat stuff (Grandaddy, Shearwater, Elbow, Nick Drake) and would like to liven up my current iPod. Anyone know of anything combining electronica with heavy guitars & real drums that I might listen to? Also listening to LCD Soundsystem, Midnight Juggernauts, M83....

Mercury Rev is really similar to Grandaddy, the best way I've heard them described is "the Flaming Lips of the northeast." Their recent material (since 1998's Deserter's Songs) is more pop-oriented, but earlier albums were more crowded and noisy. Sparklehorse is great too, but can be a bit depressing at times (especially since Mark Linkous recently committed suicide). Still, his first three albums (Vivadixiesubmarinetransmissionplot, Good Morning Spider & It's a Wonderful Life) are among some of the strongest to come out of the lo-fi movement.

And there's always Yo La Tengo, Gomez, Super Furry Animals, Spiritualized, Primal Scream & the Flaming Lips among others.

Victorian Halls look pretty good too judging from their youtube performances. Will check out the album, thanks jacobharris.

I don't really enjoy all indie songs but the ones on my repeat are 'Crystallised' by The Xx, 'Punching in a dream' by The Naked and the Famous, 'Kids' by MGMT and 'Crystalline' by Bjork. Other than these dream poppy songs, i also like duet songs by Glen Hansard & Marketa Irglova.

So what kind of songs can you guys recommend to me?

I wouldn't really call MGMT dream-pop, The xx have more of a dream-pop influence I guess. I'm not familiar with The Naked and the Famous.

If you dig The xx and Bjork you could try Bat For Lashes. Her music is fairly poppy and accessible yet still has plenty of depth and experimentation. If you like this song get her last album Two Suns.

If you haven't already also check out Jamie xx, he's one of the members of The xx and he has is own solo stuff, it's electronic rather than indie but you might enjoy him.

I can't really think of any other singer-songwriter duet artists but since you dig Glen Hansard check out his band The Frames. They have a few albums but all are pretty much worth checking out.
