Default School of Seven Bells

A wonderful dream pop/shoegaze duo (formerly a trio) that remind me of marble cake. Their sweet, filling, swirling songs leave me slightly mystified. Albeit, I have only "Alpinisms", but it's a superb album definitely worth checking out.

I've always found Alpinisms a bit patchy. Some great songs on it such as 'Half Asleep' and 'Iamundernodisguise' but there is a lot of filler on that album. Would have made a good EP or mini-album I think. Their second album Disconnect From Desire is a big improvement with a more streamlined sound but, still has one or two filler tracks. Some great songs on it such as 'Heart Is Strange', 'I L U' and "Bye Bye Bye'.

Their new album Ghostory has leaked and it's pretty okay so far, it seems a bit uneven in places. There's a mixture between thumping electronics and their usual dream-pop sound. Another listen will probably reveal more.

Very good band. Alpinisms is a great album in my opinion, I prefer it to Disconnect... which I think is a little patchy

Looking forward to their upcoming third, haven't got hold of the leak yet.

I agree with pretty much everything zero has said. They frustrate me a lot sometimes because when they make a good song, they REALLY make a good song, but everything else is just your average synth pop. Nothing special at all. Alpinisms has better individual sits but Disconnect From Desire is better overall. One of the Deheza sisters left, so I'm hoping that doesn't impact the new album too much. It's too bad if it's just ok though... I was really hoping they would keep the progression up and land a really killed album the third time around.

Loving this song

Ghostory seems more melodic and more electronic-based than their previous two albums but still retains their key traits and seems more consistent overall. The album flows pretty well as a whole with each song playing it's part. It's probably not a killer album but it hasn't disappointed me. To me it seems like a progression but only just.

From their Facebook page:
Quote:
Dear friends,

Last night, Dec. 29th 2013, we lost our friend and brother Benjamin Curtis to his fight against cancer.

While we had hoped to delay this announcement until a more suitable time when his friends and family could feel better prepared and settled to greet any correspondences from folks attempting to reach out, unfortunately the news has prematurely leaked. So we felt it would be appropriate to at least offer an official acknowledgement from us, in light of all the fans who loved and supported Benjamin and his music.

We kindly ask that his immediate family, friends & bandmates' privacy be respected during this time, and that instead, any inquires, well wishes, or notes-of-consolation be sent through School of Seven Bells’ management, where it can be shared with them at the suitable time. They can be sent to a special e-mail address here: sviib@wizkidmanagement.com

If relevant, further information will be made available through the suitable channels in the near future.

We can’t thank all of you who supported him and his music through the years enough. All of you who attended or participated in the various benefits in and around New York City over the past year since his diagnosis, and of course those who contributed and gave generously to help support him throughout that journey. You made it possible for all of us, and for him, to see how truly loved he was and how many lives he had touched through his music by your gestures. We will all miss this incredibly talented and rare person every day, but we are fortunate enough that he shared with us his music, and that is something that we can keep forever.
R.I.P. Benjamin
