I'm finally going to give this a go. it doesn't sound awful from the reviews here, but not really exceptional. The Strokes have done some of my favorite tracks of all time, so I'm open. Favorite tracks so far?

Anything come of the spotify best-of?

I would go for 50/50 to be honest. Bit more reminiscent of their old stuff, a pretty decent song.

^^ Can hear the Strokes in 50/50. I like it.

MY opinions based on what I have listened to so far:
I really dislike "All The Time"-- I can't really name the reason I have such a strong dislike for it, I just do. Maybe because it is the one of the least 80's-sounding on an album where they are doing something different. It's like a fake Strokes song. Maybe I should listen harder, or try again.

"Welcome to Japan" is growing on me. "Tap Out" is as well. I really enjoy Albert Hammond Jr's playing. I loved his solo stuff and this song reminds me of that.

"Chances" I find my self wanting to like this song, but I do not. Something about the voice just doesn't do it for me.

I'm trying to keep an open mind. This is not Is this It, or Room on Fire two of my favorite albums.Comedown Machine will never be what those are to me. However, I can get behind this new album, a little. Being a Strokes "purists", that's as far as I can go.

Glad you like it, still my favorite song so far. I don't mind All The Time, although it annoys me because it seems to have promise without really getting "to the point." I do like Welcome to Japan though, it goes on a bit but it's pretty decent. I would add Happy Ending too, although it goes a bit downhill towards the end I really like the simplicity and the pace. As for the rest, I could take them or leave them really, I feel your pain.

I'm just going to listen to it already, I've been putting it off for way too long at this point.

This album is quite simply amazing.

It was reviewed as 4/5 stars here which is a rating I agree with:

Renowned for Sound | The Strokes – Comedown Machine

Best track : Happy Ending!!!!
