The Official Interpol Thread

Hi everyone !

Any fan of Interpol here ? For myself, I am an huge fan for two years now, but I live in a very small town, so now I would like to talk with other fans.
If you don't know them, you can listen to their next album and enter a competition to win some very coooooool stuff like rare EPs and vinyls HERE
Hope you are going to enjoy their music ! Tell me what you think about them...

Interpol

Hello,
My name's Marta and I'm taking part in a competition to promote a band called Interpol. I've got to convience as many people as possible to click this link: http://www.interpol-antics.com/inter...tYwsTuPSGTWlF1 .
It's a site promoting their new album- 'Antics'.
So if you would be so kind to just click this link, I would REALLY appreciate it..
Thanks so much and sorry for bothering you,
Marta

PS. You can also listen to some of their songs on this site :)

David Frost 09-30-2004 06:35 PM

ill do it because that band owns

riseagainstrocks 10-01-2004 03:23 PM

Not a huge fan of the new cd, but I like some of their old stuff.

adidasss 04-18-2005 04:16 AM

let's talk about interpol

i dont know if there's a thread about interpol, like most young people today i have a short attention spand so i just looked at the first two pages...i really looove the second album so i downloaded the first one too but it doesn't come close...it's boring and there's not an axelent song on it..if i downloaded it first i shure as hell wouldn't download the second one...got lucky there.
the first and last song on antics are boring though...any thoughts?
p.s. take you on a cruise is one of the best songs i ever heard!!

Sneer 04-18-2005 09:11 AM

i dont mind interpol, some good songs. but to me the level in which they rip off joy division is criminal. evils a damn good song though.

adidasss 04-18-2005 12:03 PM

well, i'm one of those people who doesn't care who influenced who as long as its sonds great...also i don't listen to joy division ( i tried downloading one song but it sucked ass ) so you can see how little i care if they ripped someone's sound off...as far as i'm concerned they invented it...the same goes for bloc party and suppesed rip off of gang of four ( never heard them and never will )...i suppose you would care about those things if you are 40 and you grew up listening to joy division and gang of four, but i'm 22 and those bands don't exist for me

Urban Hat€monger ? 04-18-2005 12:24 PM

Wow what a closed mind you have

adidasss 04-18-2005 12:31 PM

i don't think i have a closed mind...i'm open to all kinds of music, but i just think that, since i've never listened to those bands, it would be stupid and pointless to start listening to them now that other bands have done it better ( among other things, production wise )...capishi?

Urban Hat€monger ? 04-18-2005 01:33 PM

How can you know they`re better , you say you`ve heard one Joy Division song & you`ve never heard of Gang Of Four.

its called broadening your horizons. and as urban said, how do you know their better without listening to the originals? and for your info, joy division own interpol.

actually the first album is just as boring as the second.

anyone else sick of this trendy indie new wave rock plague?

Sneer 04-18-2005 03:09 PM

well, i like the subways and nine black alps if you class them in this new wave. interpol, not an album fan, hot hot heat etc are quite good.

lol looks like im a bit different to you regarding interpol! im a huge interpol fan and i regard there first album as a masterpiece as many do, but, you do have to listen to it a few times!

as for the last song on antics, its my favourite on the album!!

adidasss 04-19-2005 12:49 PM

ok..we differ...it seems that people who like interpol are devided into two groups...the ones who like the first and hate the second one ...and those who love antics and find the first one a bit boring

Urban Hat€monger ? 04-19-2005 02:05 PM

or those of us that thought the first was was dull & the 2nd even duller

damn your annoying. the guy who doesnt listen to old music becuase he's 22, or who thinks interpol and bloc party etc are better than the oldies despite never listening to them...is open minded.....and we're narrow minded ("closedminded" wtf?). your logic and existence baffles me.

Urban Hat€monger ? 04-19-2005 03:01 PM

it's allright...you need to forgive yourself so the healing process can begin...
get off my back!!i think lcd soundsystem described you people the best:
" i heard u have a compilation of every good song ever done by anybody, every great song by the beach boys, all the underground hits, all the modern lovers tracks, i heard you have a vinyl of every niagra record on german imports, i heard u have a white label of every seminol detroit techno hit, 1985, 86, 87, i heard u have a cd compilation of every good sixties cut, and another box set from the seventies, i hear everybody you know is more relevant than everybody i know..."
goddamn snobs!
i mean, chill out people it's just music...

You were the one who dismissed them without listening.it`s not a case of being snobby.

I`ve heard Interpol , I`ve heard Gang Of Four & I`ve heard Joy Division. I`m making an opinion on 3 bands i`ve heard and out of the 3 I rate the other 2 higher than Interpol. It`s got nothing to do with how old the album is or how underground it is it is because...

1. I think Ian Curtis is a great both vocally & lyrically
2. I rate Peter Hook as possibly one of THE best bass players ever
3. Joy Divison are much more musically diverse than Interpol ever have been
4. Joy Division are one of my favourite bands & it`ll take more than a bunch of overhyped NME poster boys in suits to change that

Musically snobbery?

I don`t think so.

I'm 22 and I love joy division. How can you say you have better taste in music than anyone when taste is subjective. Why would restricting what you listen to improve your musical taste and knowlege? And to say 'you are the ones that are closedminded'!! Why?!? You can't make a point like that without justification. Is it really closed-minded to listen to music irrespective of when it was made? And to say interpol 'have done it better' than joy division! WTF. Firstly, you're wrong! and secondly, you have only heard one joy divison song!!!

thats all well and good, each to their own and all that jazz, but dont slate the older stuff without ever listening to it.

P.S, its narrow minded, not closed minded.

thank you for pointing out my error...real nice...at least i speak other languages...how good is you spanish or italian, french maybe...i think not.
and i never slated? the older stuff...i just meant there's no point in starting to listen to it now that i've already heard the stuff that it evolved into, get my drift?i'm sorry i didn't mean to be disrespectful o supreme authority in music, please forgive me

adidasss 04-20-2005 03:57 PM

and ok...recomend the best songs from joy division so i can download them...

Sneer 04-20-2005 04:29 PM

well we have ourselves a patronising ****wit. since when has this turned into a language contest, learn to communicate in proper english first. download the album "closer", then, take one of your interpol albums, and choke on it.

adidasss 04-21-2005 10:26 AM

you know ,just because you're British, doesn't mean you HAVE to be a self-centered *******. you know what NARROW minded is? its not knowing where Croatia is, or Slovakia or Ukraine, it's never watching movies with subtitles or listening to music that isn't in English, it's not bothering to learn a different language because, well ,why the **** should you, it's thinking you're better then me because your in the West and I'm in the East, it's thinking we have no computers, electricity or running water and we grow sheep for a living and being surprised when you find out we have McDonalds and Subway sandwiches....MY mind is WIDE-****ING-OPEN!!

Sneer 04-21-2005 10:49 AM

croatia is a former state of yugoslavia, slovakia a former state of czechoslovakia and ukraine formerly of the russian empire. ukraine gained independance in 1991 along with croatia and indeed slovakia. all are in eastern europe and all were occupied by the the nazis in WWII. i speak 3 langauages, albeit two not fluently. i listen to or know of a large range of music from around the world. since when have i said im better than you because of our origins? and since when have i thought eastern europe is still in the dark ages?! your talking absolute **** you fool. so before you start insulting me get your facts straight. and your epic tale of woe fails to move me. so please stop bleating.

adidasss 04-21-2005 03:28 PM

good reply...i cover myself with ashes and wait for your forgiveness...

Urban Hat€monger ? 04-21-2005 03:31 PM

And there`s me thinking all people in eastern europe listened to was cheesy 80s metal

Sneer 04-21-2005 03:31 PM

if your being sarcastic then not only is that the worst comeback ive ever had the pleasure of seeing, but may you burn in the fiery chasms of hell.

if it helps... i speak those languages i go to school with LedZepStu, its really not that hard. I almost failed most of my important GCSES, you don't need intelligence for languages, i should no

actually i was trying to be funny while apologizing...i generalized and that was wrong, but in my defense ( :) i admit, ur funny!), 99.9% of western Europeans tend to think so...and to get back at the whole joy division thing...i've downloaded closer...sorry, didn't like it, and, i know i will be butchered for this, but it's sound a lot like the slower stuff from the doors, only a couple of songs are a bit different ( were they put in some synthesizers ) and that also sounds like something the doors would have perhaps done if morrison didn't die 10 years earlier...i can see how tortured ,suicidal souls would like this kind of music, but i must state that i like interpol for the kickass drums and the guitars witch are almost non existent on closer...btw have you noticed what type of music i like ( bloc party, franz ferdinand, the killers, the bravery, the arcade fire, lcd soundsystem, the chemical brothers, at the drive in.. just to name the recent music i'm listening to )...can you see me listening to this suicidal music?

adidasss 04-21-2005 05:00 PM

because ATDI are a joyously happy, zest for life loving band. arcade fire, very happy indeed. and i cannot believe you've just compared the doors and joy division. theres a depth to closer, interpol are just rip offs of ian curtis' vocal style and JDs rythmn section. dont get me wrong, i like evil though that is about it. theres just nothing special or unique about the at all. their just faceless.
