get to know me!!!!

i figured since i'm going to be sticking around for quite a while, as i have gotten some good news but maybe bad for some, i should make a thread for people to ask me anything they want about me. i will answer what i can.
also, there will be some restructuring that i have been made aware of which i will announce once the other members involved are able to arrive, so they can answer your questions about their roles.

please keep it civil! i don't want to have to ban and infract, as that is not what i was sent here to do, but it's not out of the question or anything! :)

AmazingPurpleCat 04-03-2012 04:49 PM

Why were you suddenly promoted to super mod?

jayshreddz 04-03-2012 04:51 PM

as some of the other mods here said, i was sent here on pay from the owners for forum evaluations.

Freebase Dali 04-03-2012 04:55 PM

We've already talked to you a bit about this in the mod cave, Jay, but can you give us any more information in regard to the "restructuring" you're talking about? You were very vague about this previously.
I think it might be good for the mod staff here to at least have an idea of what it is the company is planning.

AmazingPurpleCat 04-03-2012 04:55 PM

Cool

How old are you?

TockTockTock 04-03-2012 04:56 PM

What do you plan on (specifically) doing?

anticipation 04-03-2012 05:00 PM

We have our own set of rules and regulations, as well as a member-driven culture that has been developed long before you or your current employers were ever here. Do you plan on changing either of these, and if so why?

Why is our forum being evaluated and what will this consist of?

this will be unveiled soon. i am soon in contact with the other parties and we need to coordinate what information we release. also freebase dali, it's no different for you mods as the community is concerned. i can't talk about it until the other parties are involved.

as you know, our company owns this site and a bunch of other sites. this is part of a sweeping thing that doesn't just involve this place. as for more details i cannot release yet. just know that things will change according to the company policy. they will be tiered, and the first announcement soon will not be the last.

ten and maybe the self titled too.

So will this benefit the community or will it hinder the free expression of ideas? And don't give me the bullshit answer of "I can't release details yet", although seeing as how you have next to no frame of reference about this forum I can't see you giving an informed answer.

this will benefit the community based on experience of other communities. and calm down with tone.

TockTockTock 04-03-2012 05:20 PM

Jayshreddz, this is a very tight-knit community, and it is relatively unique in comparison to that of other online communities. So please... do not do anything to ruin what he already have established here.

That is all I (as well as the other members of the forum, I'm sure) ask.

Burning Down 04-03-2012 05:20 PM

Hi Jay!

Chuck_Harvey 04-03-2012 05:22 PM

Hi all,

Since jay went ahead and made a thread to address your concerns, I felt I could jump in and explain somethings.

My name is Chuck and I'll be acting as a representative of the owners of this site..much as jay is. As jay has mentioned, this is a multiple forum-wide evaluation of both the effectiveness of the "volunteer" moderator system as well as the ability of the forum to attract new and potentially profit-increasing members. After "lurking" for some time and allowing jay to become acclimated with the site, it has become painfully obvious that changes need to be made.

Things I have noticed:

1) Lagging membership
2) Rampant bypassing of the curse word filters
3) Ineffective attempts at reducing spam
4) Blatant disregard for our nudity policies

While this is in no way finger pointing at the current mods (they are volunteers, after all), we feel we needed to have a direct line to the powers-that-be. That's why jay, myself, and several others will be joining to the site to monitor the above mentioned situations.

Don't fret, however, I love talking about music and I'm sure you will all come to like me! I may be "old" by your standards, but I still listen to all the good stuff playing on the radio these days.

I welcome any thoughts/questions. If I am not around I'm sure jay can help as well.

Chuck

that is not our intentions. there may be some distaste about some of our decisions, but we are sure about what we are putting into play. we have had enough time to see the results of such things in the past, so we are confident it will work for everyone's benefit.

no.

TockTockTock 04-03-2012 05:24 PM

What do you mean by lagging membership, and why is the filtering of profanity a primary concern?

jayshreddz 04-03-2012 05:29 PM

i'll let you explain that part chuck. but if i can add, this is not something specific to this site. it is an overall concern that has to do with the status of all our sites and how they come up on search engines.

anticipation 04-03-2012 05:30 PM

In what way will a free forum bring in profit-increasing members, and why is this a primary concern now when it hasn't been in the past? If anything, this is as active as the boards have ever been, and new membership usually comes in cycles.

Chuck_Harvey 04-03-2012 05:34 PM

Compared to other competitive community forums, this site is not meeting our expectations.

As for the profanity filter and posting of nudity...adhering to the rules means we show up higher on search engines.

We are not interested in the "tight knit" attitude of the forum. It should be fairly easy with modern social networking sites to keep up with each other if that is your concern. Our goal here is to increase membership and attractiveness of the site.

jayshreddz 04-03-2012 05:35 PM

he was talking about some of the profane stuff that goes on in all our sites and how they affect google ratings. members arent profit. hits are profit. and when google's requirements aren't met for the level ratings they are employing, we go down in the search results. so then, the site is making less money.

jayshreddz 04-03-2012 05:36 PM

the easiest thing to do is make sure none of this stuff is happening! which is one of the reasons we are here.

Rubato 04-03-2012 06:19 PM

If there is any restructuring going on, will the volunteer staff have any say in it and will this new setup be open to suggestions?

duga 04-03-2012 06:20 PM

Yeah, right. I have no clue who the **** Chuck Harvey is. That should tell you something.

Sparky 04-03-2012 06:22 PM

yo i was chill with jay shreddz, this chuck harvey dude not as chill with. Seems like some bureaucratic soulless shell typa dude

you will all know when we announce what's going on with the staff positions. there will be changes, but i'm talking to the company right now as far as what info to release.

Why would they? The higher ups have never adhered to any of the multiple suggestions the mod team has brought up in order to make this forum more desirable. For awhile we were thinking about having a front page for music news and reviews that members could post in to give themselves more writing exposure and attract new members.

Or the multiple security updates we've pleaded for to make it harder for spammers to create accounts.

We had to fight tooth and nail just to get larger avatars, and even then only mods could do it, creating another work around for us on something that should be simple.

just to let you know loathesome pete, we are definitely going to be addressing these things. we do want the sites to prosper, which is why we are taking a more direct approach.

Just waiting for his cohorts to drop by...
Apparently this is so important that everyone needs to be told once instead of disseminated through us first, the actual staff that the community trusts...

Open your eyes and you'll see it's obviously having the exact opposite effect. Your direct involvement is alienating the membership, which you've made clear is of no concern to you. If profit is all you seek, then get a real ****ing job.

LoathsomePete 04-03-2012 06:31 PM

Well it's a good thing the suggestions from 3-years ago are finally getting looked at, perhaps in 3 more years something will actually happen.

you don't even know what our ultimate plans are and you're already passing judgement? see the forest through the trees, bro. this is bigger than you. i wonder if you'll feel horrible when all the sudden all the things you guys have been asking for are suddenly granted? will you still be complaining? give us a chance. it takes money to do this stuff.

Sparky 04-03-2012 06:34 PM

Well if your saying you will give us the things we want i'll be happy camper, but im pretty sure you haven't been saying that

I only have what you give me, I judge people on their actions and not their promises. You aren't anyone who I'd like to have running anything, nor is your little buddy Chuck. If you say you're here to help and then go around acting like a ass, how else are we to respond? And I'm not your bro.

I'm kind of hoping that the "restructuring" will in fact help the community by forming better communication between the mods and admins, where they would make these changes with the current community rather than against it.

which kind of leads me to my second question, is keeping the current community in any way a priority or even a concern?
