Smile Hello!

Hi, just googled music forums and liked the look of this. The name's Grant and I love my hip hop. I do a radio show every week which is great as I get to play whatever music I like. I work at a university so I use their studio and enables me to broadcast across a large city here in the UK as well as online. I also love going to concerts, mostly in London but I have been to Hip Hop Kemp in the Czech Republic a couple of times which is absolutely brilliant for hip hop fans. It's like Glastonbury but JUST hip hop. Quite surreal. My top 5 gigs would be:
  1. J-Live
  2. Chali 2na
  3. Fashawn
  4. MOP
  5. Foreign Beggars

Other than music, I am a fan of videogames. My favourite consoles are the N64 and Dreamcast, although currently I mostly play the Wii. I am also a fan of wrestling and keep up with WWE, as lame as it is right now. I love tattoos too, and have various portraits on my body. Also I play softball every week which is my way of exercising (aka very little). I also collect Viz comics and recently have began expanding my music CD collection.
Other than hip hop, I also enjoy R&B such as Monica and Marsha Ambrosius although my favourite R&B artist at the moment is Daley. I enjoy some heavy metal too such as Killswitch Engage, but this is mostly from my time watching wrestling! I also love football/soccer and my team is Tottenham Hotspur, I try to watch a few games each season and a friend and I have the goal of visiting all Premier League stadiums so we usually vouch for away games.

Just realised this is a long post, but hope to get to know some nice people on here!

Hi welcome to the site although I'm pretty new myself!

What a detailed intro! How are you enjoying the Olympics so far??

I'm gonna check out all 5 of those artists so thanks for posting them. Here's one for you: what's one song you'd really love everyone in the world to hear, at least once?

And Wii, huh? What's your favourite game?

And if that wasn't enough questions, what do you think of the state of hip hop today? Just wanna see what kind of a thinker you are

The Olympics is great, I thought the opening ceremony was really well done and very British! I've been enjoying events such as table tennis and the swimming, I'm surprised swimming isn't a big betting sport like horse racing as it's similarly exciting to watch.

I've no idea what one song I'd want everyone to hear, but Below The Heavens by Blu & Exile is one hip hop record I think everyone should listen to, and it's a good example of how you can make modern hip hop sound relevant. Linking with your other question, regarding the state of hip hop today, I think the scene is alive and well although there are fewer classic albums around now of course. The mainstream hip hop scene is effectively pop songs with raps, and it's not really what I listen to anyway. It does annoy me when artists such as Flo-rida and Kanye West are representing what many people think is hip hop, when their work is equally influenced by dance music. Of course music evolves but hip hop in the traditional sense has been overlooked for a while now. The downfall of creative artists such as Busta Rhymes and Fat Joe is evidence of this, whereby all the features on their latest albums are R&B/pop singers and dance DJs.
So for the most part I listen to the older stuff, along with underground artists that are keeping the "hip hop" sound alive such as Torae, Reks and the older rappers like O.C. and Bumpy Knuckles.

As for my favourite Wii game, I really enjoyed Rayman Origins although I'm playing through Resident Evil 4 for the millionth time and it never stops being fun. Though technically it's a Gamecube game. I've yet to play the Mario Galaxy titles yet though but I suspect they may be my new favourites.
