Default Greetings MB community

My name's Stevie, I'm 21 years old and I'm from Ireland. I've been lurking for a few days to get a feel for how active the community is and it seems to be thriving, I'm looking forward to contributing to the banter :-)

I have my dad to thank for sparking my interest in music. He started me on daily doses of Pink Floyd, The Talking Heads, Bob Marley, etc. from as far back as I can remember and I quickly became obsessed. My first favourite album, when I was around 8 years old, was Jeff Wayne's "War of the Worlds", my eyes used to be glued to the illustrations in the book that came with the vinyl (anyone who owns it knows how awesome they are!). When I was around 16 I started finding music for myself and developed a taste for metal, which I rarely listen to now apart from the odd bit of Megadeth and Rammstein. Right now I have a soft spot for ambient techno and folk music but my listening habits are constantly changing. I also enjoy playing and composing music, I've been playing guitar for about 8 years now and I'm beginning to learn Ableton.

Wow, I kinda let this introduction drag on a bit haha. I read the sticky thread for newbies, it recommended giving a little insight into your musical taste and I guess I had myself a moment of nostalgia writing it lol. I'll wrap things up by saying I hope to make some new like minded friends on here as I get involved with the community and until then be good and take it easy :-)

Thanks Pedestrian. My favourite electronic music artists at the moment are Loess, Proem, Kettel, and Nautilis. My favourite acoustic artists these days are John Martyn, Bert Jansch and Davy Graham. Have you listened to any of them?

I took a glance at your last.fm and saw Bowies "Starman" in your loved tracks; I'll be on a Bowie binge tonight after that haha.

Haha Ah well you know how it is, we're not too fond of invading other countries (unless we run out of potatoes) so we go after smaller game like internet forums for our little power trips :P Thanks for the welcome FETCHER

LOL! Someone else said (I think it was Batlord) that Canadians were taking over this forum like locusts, but maybe by Canadians he meant Irish people

Cheers khfreek! I thought I might come across another Jansch fan here I can't seem to find anyone around my hometown who knows about him but that just gives me the pleasure of spreading his great music. I'm addicted to his song "Needle of Death"

Hahahaha I had no idea this even existed Engine, I got a nice laugh from that To be honest, the only Heart song I know is "Barracuda", I got my name from a Brion Gysin (painter/writer if you don't know him) quote:

"Man is a bad animal because he kills not only his own kind but any and all other animals, wantonly….Man is the only animal who destroys his own nest...No fish ever polluted the sea. No bird every polluted the air. No other animal ever takes slaves and wages war."

Many predators kill the young of a pack if another male takes over, beavers cause plenty of environmental damage with their dams, some ants keep aphids as farm animals for their sugary excretions, and chimpanzees are well known for "waging war" on each other for females and territory. Sorry, but the whole notion of mankind as somehow worse than any other animal species bugs me.

Welcome to the site BTW.
