Everyone got to make jokes before I could and I can't think of any other good ones.

When I was living in Wales I could get a pint of Guinness from Wetherspoons for 90p, and maybe around 1.30-1.50 from the local pubs. The trick to getting a good pint in the U.S. is to find a pub that pours it regularly and keeps their pipes clean. It also ensures that you get a properly poured pint, not that "Oh I'll just pour it like a pint of lager" crap I see so many "bartenders" do.

Try Guinness in Ireland, especially in Kerry. Its like drinking liquid tranquility.

Weatherspoons used to sell pints for 90 pence?
Tell me more about these ancient and intriguing times.

The year was 2006, Tony Blair was still PM and the the western radiostations were shocked by the hither-known talent of Danger Mouse and Cee-Lo when the song "Crazy" took over the summer's radio stations. The world was shocked by the death of Steve Irwin and the scientific community's revelation that Pluto was in fact not a planet. North Korea conducted their very first nuclear bomb test, and the world collectively shat its pants in terror.

That's seriously all I remember about that pointless year.

Yeah, I think you're right. I mean, whenever I've been in Ireland, Dublin inparticular, all the Guinness I was sold was outstanding and that just isn't the case here, even though I'm only in nearby England.

I do, however, find great pints of Guinness in some places here and I think it does go to show that how responsible the landlord is, how it is stored and how it is poured does make the difference.

I really am disheartened when I pay for Guinness and the barman/barmaid pours it straight out in under five seconds.

When I first started drinking it was £1.09 a pint in Wetherspoons. That was 2000. They did used to have frequent promotions though, just as they do now, so £0.90 - £1.00 wasn't uncommon.

Happy days. I used to get pissed, get food and get a bus home with £15.
