Shadowplay went off without a hitch since we rehearsed it so much that it was practically second nature. Well, my bass fell off but I caught it and carried on singing while I put the strap back on, but yeah, haha. There were some technical things I wasn't too pleased with. The guitars weren't as loud as I wanted, because we couldn't turn them up due to the venue being ****, so we'd get major feedback. We made the song our own, because the lead guitarist is into all this thrash metal stuff, and the rhythm guitarist is into rock like Pixies and The Velvet Underground etc, so we incorporated those elements while still maintaining the sound of the original.

Next we played Psycho Killer, which went well, except I kinda messed up the harmonies. I normally don't sing on that song, but we decided to try it that night since there were two mics.

Lastly, we played a song we'd wrote, which opened with some spoken word, then kicked into this heavy punk song. Me and the rhythm guitarist and vocalist swapped places because the guy mixing the show did a crap job with the mics, but that meant that it stretched the lead for him verrrry far, and it actually came out during the song. Oh, and the mic fell off the stand so we had technicians trying to put it back on mid-song.

We were the only band to get a crowd reaction that night, so I'd say we impressed. I had people I didn't know telling me how good we were after the gig. I felt so buzzed from it all, haha.

Oh, and for those wondering, I was playing an early nineties Young Chang bass.

@above: A bad engineer can really mess up a band. Im not sure the size of that venue but if its a smaller one its almost better to not mic anything up and just play straight. That was you guys have full control of the way that you will sound. By the looks of it your gear could easily compete with even a pretty loud drummer. Thats cool you had a good time I think playing on stage makes you progress in your playing far more than playing by yourself or just practicing with people normally.

I always find it funny that within a band the guitarists more times than not play the same guitars. Even in professional bands that have been together for years. I guess if one person finds his sound the other is sure to follow! And a tip, next time talk to the tech before hand about how you would like him to mix your band so you are both on the same page. Just dont come across as telling him how to do his job.

I'm the only person I know of that uses a Tele Custom for stuff other than Paramore and Rolling Stones type stuff (Keef and that guitarist from Paramore are known for them). I dare you to find a shoegazer with a Telecaster Custom.

To be honest a tele custom can do absolutely anything. You have the neck hum and bridge single right? I really like the deluxe though. Those wide range hums are just like p90's. They can get single coil and humbucker sounds wonderfully. What people dont realize is that with the right amp and eq's you can get even a 3 single strat sounding very fat. Conversely with a Les Paul and the right eq and amp it can sound very chimey and fendery.
