Best blues for when you're, well, feeling blue

I don't listen to music when I'm bummed. Having said that, I think the Allman Bros. "Not My Cross To Bear" would be a good number for "rising above it all". Blues, but so good it's got to make you smile!

Im going to have to agree with the majority of people in this thread...
I listen to the blues each and every day, despite how i am feeling at that given moment. That being said. The artists i enjoy most in the 'Blues' genre are; Robert Johnson (Come on in my kitchen, fav song of his) Mississippi John Hurt (Richland woman blues) and Huddie William Leadbetter, "Leadbelly" (Stewball).
Those are the three blues artists i have been listening to profusely for the past couple years. If anybody else enjoys early americana blues, head on over to youtube and check out (Aerosolchef) That is my profile on youtube. I have a collection of some good blues artists / songs, if you are interested.

Blue in Green from everybody's favorite jazz album Kind of Blue by Miles Davis will forever be my ultimate melancholy tune. It's all about Bill Evans' piano work, which is like Prozac for the ears.

i disagree. though kind of blue is a classic album, one of the best of all time, its not somewhere i would go for a really down home blues. maybe jimmy smith, or oscar peterson for something really swingin'

Although this is not a discussion on "what exactly the blues is or is not", I have to agree with Aloz Eht. All due respect, Jackhammer, I don't hear anything triumphant about the blues, but just the opposite. I feel that some of the blues of recent time and today have blues riffs, blues chords and a blues format but are not so "blue". Then again, it's all in how you interpret the music. With a stretch you could call Adam Duritz a bluesman. I don't always know wtf he's talking about with elephants and bunny suits and raincoats n sh!t, but he sho iz blue 'bout it.
