Best blues for when you're, well, feeling blue

what do you guys really enjoy putting on when your feeling down. artist song or album

chumb 06-28-2007 11:25 AM

Howlin' Wolf is pretty awesome, and Chulahoma by The Black Keys is pretty sweet as well. I've been meaning to get more blues though.

AriVolk 06-29-2007 02:41 PM

funny thing is, I find alot of blues music to be quite happy

jackhammer 07-01-2007 06:21 PM

Blues is triumph over adversity, so I don't put blues on when I'm down at all. Very few musical genres are so refreshingly honest. Blues is.

SweetSamBlues 07-11-2007 02:56 PM

T-bone Walker-Stormy monday Blues
Billie Gibbons-Blue Jean Blues
Robin Trower-Bridge of Sighs

And Then to make me feel better...
Jimi Hendrix-Red House
(I know her sister will)

Of Course, You can Always just play your own blues. thats the best

dojo 07-26-2007 08:33 AM

Stevie Ray Vaughan, BB King, Ry Cooder .. many have songs that really make me feel better.

Frances 07-26-2007 09:34 PM

I don't put on blues when I have the blues either.

I try:
Thom Yorke/Radiohead or Tori Amos - To let the blues overwhelm me.
The Mars Volta - To turn the blues into an angry/meloncholy kind of mood.

I don't normally try to change my mood with music, I try to further it. A little destructive at times but that's the way I like it.

A couple of Thom Yorke songs that get me a little blue:
The Tourist - Radiohead
Rabbit In Your Headlights - Unkle
How to disappear completely - Radiohead

BluesyRican 08-27-2007 06:46 PM

I agree with jackhammer, frances, arivolk.....I don't put on the blues when im feeling blue or down. I play and listen to the blues because I'm excited about the blues lol. Puts a smile on my face every time. And Chumb good call on the black keys, I freakin love that band.

jeiwong 10-23-2007 07:15 AM

Yeah, enjoy Blues much!!!

Although I only listen to chinese Blues but I think there's no border for music, right? I enjoy Blues so much especially during rainy day. David Tao, Z-Chen, Yanzi... they are some my favourite singers!!!

rsnjeff 10-25-2007 10:40 PM

well for me it's pretty obvious, Miles Davis' Kind of Blue.

bluesintheshoes 11-07-2007 03:15 PM

Billie Holliday "Gloomy Sunday"

etcetc_00 11-19-2007 09:39 PM

BB King. When he leads the orchestra in Chains And Things, it blows me away.

Brock_West 11-24-2007 11:20 PM

Ray Charles and Bob Dylan mostly

British_pharaoh 12-11-2007 06:03 PM

any Robert Johnson

especially Ramblings on My Mind

Lae09301 01-22-2008 01:33 PM

Personally, my favorite blues song is The Thrill Is Gone by BB King and Gary Moore. BB has done that song countless times, but the one with Gary Moore is definitely the best. the greatest part of all, its all improved. Check out the video on youtube.

axeman1 02-20-2008 09:58 PM

Stormy Monday is Classic...Southbound has some classic licks too..

Halfa 02-20-2008 10:37 PM

well yea....but this is music for when ur feelin blue
southbound is for when ur in a good mood, or have tons of energy

and i'll add Damn Right I've Got The Blues, Five Long Years, Where is the Next One Comming From, and Too Broke To Spend the Night

all by Buddy Guy

axeman1 02-21-2008 06:50 PM

"Cause we ended as lovers" - Jeff Becks version...not a traditional 1-4-5 blues by any means but the feeling is there...especially the volume swells at the beginning. Another jazzy blues is becks version of T Monks "Good Bye PorkPie Hat" off of Becks "Wired".

Polly Glott 02-24-2008 06:30 AM

The "We get requests" album with Oscar Peterson trio from 1962, I think... Peterson, Tigpen & Brown at their best.
The complete album is just perfect for those rainy, gloomy days when you just wanna stay indoor.
It has a very melancholy feeling. all together
..Love it!

Vandyman 03-02-2008 08:19 PM

Koko Taylor - Wang Dang Doodle
Makes me smile again

infusician 03-06-2008 04:17 PM

Kind of Blue - I can play that forever and not get tired of listening to it.

digglefallen 03-30-2008 01:21 PM

well when I'm feeling sad I usually just put on some Muddy Waters or BB.

For some reason my favorite bluesman, John Lee Hooker, doesn't make me feel blue.
