Max Roachs' playing with Clifford Brown is some of my favorite stuff. Buddy Rich is always fun to listen to =)
Chick Webb is up there too, in my opinion.

I'd say Elvin Jones, Max Roach and Tony Williams for depth, communication and versatility. Buddy Rich for showmanship.
