Underrated jazz funk gem from 2000 with similarly underrated guitar master Eric Krasno at the helm.

This whole album is super good. This is what jazz sounds like in a post-To Pimp a Butterfly world.

Some solo piano from one of the most important figures of Cuban jazz. Feels a little like a European waltz.

Listening again to this incredible set.
A couple of weeks ago, the whole thing had me transfixed.

'Mingus: Jazz In Detroit' Catches A Giant At A Moment Full Of Possibility.

That Lonnie Liston Smith album got a lot of play during my school years.

Another album that got played until worn out was Kulu Sé Mama - one of
those albums of which I could, and incessantly did, sing the lyrics to the title
tune as well finding myself playing drums with the whole album a lot of the
time beginning when I was about 12. I even had a classmate that used to
borrow the album from me because he got so drawn to it (he's also the guy
who never returned my original issue of The Andromeda Strain soundtrack,
but that's another story). This Coltrane and many others from that time of
personal influence still easily holding up after all these years.

I’m very comfortable using the word “best” when it comes to Coltrane

Even after decades my love continues to grow

I've been tuning to this on my commute lately, searching for something to get me out of my comfort zone. A little of this and a little of that here and there, but it's a nice change-up, and once in a while I'll even recognize an artist or song.
