The brain wouldn't have to simulate anything. Just tell itself: It got brighter.

Yes that is true, calling it a simulation is inaccurate, but that's at the root of the problem with dreams I think. As you said, when you dream of a brick wall it's just your brain thinking 'oh there's a brick wall' and that's it. You don't actually see a simulation of a wall of course, because you don't need to, you know it's there. But the fact that your dreams just rely on that system makes things go weird if for some reason you try to notice things in more detail. I guess that light thing is nothing really special, if you concentrate on your hands, or people's faces, they are wrong too. It all just depends on how well you try to notice the details of your dreams, and you'd do that sooner with switching on light than something as simple as noticing a wall. And because lighting is more complicated, you have a greater chance of seeing something being off. I dont know, dreams are fascinating

Anybody ever dream the future before?

As far as I remember it's only happened to me 3 times.

And from what I read like a decade ago through the internet the explanation for this that makes the most sense to me is that it's the brain remembering things out of order.

I've had the inverse of deja vu before, where the situation seems really familiar but also like a distant memory you can't place. Sometimes it feels like I'm predicting what's about to happen, but I think it's kind of like how you can hear a song for the first time but can predict all the lyrics. I think it's all just brain tricks.

I keep forgetting my locker combination number in my dreams but i dont have a damn locker this has happened now in at least 5 dreams
